Alexis Levi and The Las Vegas Stars prepare for Their Second Successful Season

April 2, 2008 - International Basketball League (IBL)
Las Vegas Stars News Release

Las Vegas, Nevada - March 27, 2008 - The Las Vegas Stars basketball team had a successful first season with a record of 12 wins and 5 losses. Not only do the Stars have the First African American Woman Owner/CEO and General Manager, they can also boast about several other milestones they were able to conquer.

The Stars attended the West Coast Playoffs as a contender for second place in the West division. They were the first team in IBL history to score over 200 points in a game. The second leading scorer in the league, Dajuan Tate, just happened to be on the team of the Las Vegas Stars. Tate was drafted in the 1st round of the Chinese Basketball Association after the season. He showed true sportsmanship and holds the leading score of 68 points in a game. Stars' teammate Matt Winan received a 10-day contract with Boston Celtics after the season.

"Our team is a stepping stone for basketball players who want to play Professional International Basketball and get a chance to play for the NBA. It was my goal in our first year to participate in the Playoffs and to have some success stories for the guys on our team," states owner, Alexis Levi.

"In 2008, we are stepping up our game by bringing Joe Bryant (Father of Kobe Bryant) on board to work with us as Head Trainer. He will also assist in the Basketball Operations department. Our goal is to build a closer relationship with the NBA and we feel Joe can assist us in accomplishing this. It is all about developing these guys for Greatness. Coach Kurt Baker (former International Player), brings a wealth of knowledge and his relationships with the International Basketball world to our organization."

The returning Stars players are Willie Hall, Hollis Hale, Eddie Shelby, Trevor Lawrence, Demetrius Orme, Waki Williams and Deavereaux Vinzant, along with new team members Keenan Payton (Brother of NBA Star Gary Payton, Mike Scott (former International Player) and a few additional players who we will announce in the next few weeks.

Alexis Levi and The Las Vegas Stars have chosen a national approach in their marketing efforts. Levi states, "I have spoken at events nationwide since our last season and I've learned how we can touch children, men and women with our efforts. I feel that even though I am African American, I am opening doors for Woman and Young Girls all over the world. We have joined forces with Triple Threat Academy develop boys and girls Basketball Camps/Training Programs in Los Angeles, New York, Atlanta, Chicago, North Carolina, Florida, Las Vegas, Washington, DC and Detroit."

"We have also partnered with Dr. Denise West and Cuba Gooding Sr. on the Begin with the Family Project. This is a children's educational program that will reach children ages 4-12 with DVDs/Books/Parent Guides and Teacher Guides. The characters and dialog in this program will encourage families to embrace and practice good family values, integrity and responsibility."

Along with aspiring to be the greatest team in the league, their largest challenge and endeavor is for their games to be televised nationally so that all of their national supporters will be able to enjoy the games in the comfort of their own homes, taverns, etc.

In an effort to ensure that all of what the Stars aspire to be and accomplish comes true, a group of friends and supporters have recently collaborated to raise $1 million for the Las Vegas Stars. They realized that it is not everyday Americans are given an opportunity to be a part of history. Levi believes that one million people donating $1.00 would ensure the success of the Las Vegas Stars' organization and their educational programs.

In just two days since the donation project started, they have received great responses. If you are interested in showing your support, please send your donations by visiting www.paypal.com and enter their email address thelasvegasstars@yahoo.com as their account. Call the office and make a donation by Visa, MC, Amex, Discover or send a check to our offices.

Remember! A dollar goes a long way! The Las Vegas Stars want Las Vegas to know they are there to stay!
