 Arkansas Travelers

Alcantara, Cards Stop Travs Streak

June 16, 2017 - Texas League (TL1)
Arkansas Travelers News Release

Springfield, MO-The Springfield Cardinals halted the Arkansas Travelers win streak at four while stopping their own losing skid at nine games with a 6-3 decision on Thursday night.

Cardinal righty Sandy Alcantara silenced the red hot Traveler bats by pitching six shutout innings. Arkansas managed just two hits off Alcantara and could not take advantage of four walks. He struck out four while improving his record to 3-4. Travs starter Tyler Herb took the loss giving up five runs (three earned) on six hits over six innings.

Springfield had a consistent attack throughout the night against Herb and reliever Peter Tago . They scored twice in the first inning and then single tallies in the third, fourth, sixth and eighth. Bruce Caldwell reached base four times on two hits and two walks while scoring twice and driving in one. Adolis Garcia ripped a double to plate a run in the first inning and then belted a solo homer in the fourth.

The Travelers offense came to life in the final couple innings but it was too little, too late. They plated a pair in the eighth on an RBI single by Tyler Marlette and a fielder's choice groundout by Kyle Waldrop . Then in the ninth, Joey Wong drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.

Game four of this five game series is on Friday night with right-hander Lindsey Caughel (3-7, 6.13) on the hill for Arkansas against right-hander Zac Gallen (1-1, 2.45) in his third Double-A start for Springfield. First pitch is set for 7:10 and the game will be broadcast on the Sports Animal 920, the First Pitch App, TuneIn radio and milb.tv.
