January 7, 2009 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Albany River Rats News Release
ALBANY, NY - The Albany River Rats announced today that left wing Michael Ryan has been selected to play for the PlanetUSA AHL All-Star Team in the 2009 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Charter Communications on January 26th at the DCU Center in Worcester, Mass.
Ryan, 28, has 25 points (13 goals, 12 assists) in 27 games played and is currently leading the River Rats in goals and points; this will be his first AHL All-Star selection. The Boston, Massachusetts native recorded his second hat trick of the 2008-09 season last Saturday as he scored all three Albany games in a 3-2 overtime win over East Division rival Bridgeport. With two hat tricks in the span of 22 days Ryan became just the third player in Rats history to have multiple three-goal games in one season and now boasts the second fastest two hat trick span in the franchise record book.
Ryan signed a one-year, two-way NHL contract with the Carolina Hurricanes on October 31sth and immediately assigned to Albany. He was recalled to Raleigh on November 7th and made his Hurricanes debut that night at the RBC Center against Ottawa. He returned to Albany on November 10th after playing in two games with Carolina and has since risen to the top of the River Rats scoring chart. Ryan was originally drafted by the Dallas Stars in the second round, 32nd overall, of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. He has totaled 13 points (7g, 6a) and 32 penalty minutes in 67 career NHL games, with Buffalo and Carolina.
Albany will return to action next Friday, January 9th as they travel to Massachusetts for a 7:05 pm face off with the Worcester Sharks at DCU Center. The River Rats next home game takes place on Saturday, January 17th at 7:00 pm against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at the Times Union Center.
River Rats flex ticket packages and individual game tickets are on sale now at the River Rats office and the Times Union Center Box Office. For more information please contact the Albany River Rats at (518) 487-2244 or online at www.albanyriverrats.com.
