Albany Devils Take Game 1 in Toronto

May 4, 2016 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Albany Devils News Release

TORONTO - Scott Wedgewood and the Albany Devils held the AHL's highest powered offense to just one goal in a 2-1 victory Wednesday. The Devils grabbed a 1-0 series advantage against the Toronto Marlies during Game 1 at Ricoh Coliseum.

Wedgewood made 32 saves as the Devils won for the fourth time this postseason and handed the Marlies, who averaged 3.87 goals-per-game during the regular season, their first loss of the playoffs.

Brian O'Neill and Matt Lorito both scored and Mike Sislo registered a pair of assists.

The Devils struck first after Sislo found Marc-Andre Gragnani high in the zone. He fed to O'Neill at the left faceoff circle and Paul Thompson provided a screen, allowing O'Neill to find a hole at 8:31.

Toronto's response came just over a minute later. Connor Carrick's point shot hit a mass of bodies and popped over Wedgewood at 9:40.

Sixty-one seconds later, Lorito cashed in driving the net from the left half wall at 10:41.
