Utah Grizzlies News Release

West Valley City, Utah - The Alaska Aces (28-19-2-0) defeated the Utah Grizzlies (28-18-4-1) 4-3 Wednesday night at Maverik Center.

Utah battled back from two one-goal deficits at 1-0 and 2-1 and took a 3-2 lead that wouldn't hold before the Aces and the ECHL's leading goal scorer Wes Goldie totaled two scores in a 2:29 span at 12:42 and 15:11 of the third period to give Alaska a 4-3 lead that they would hold.

"Our matchups didn't do the job tonight, we had way too many passengers," said Head Coach Kevin Colley. "We had some momentum there (second period), but didn't bury our chances and took way too many penalties."

Marcus Carroll (12), returning to the Utah lineup after five games injured, scored Utah's first of the night nine seconds into their first shorthanded situation of the evening and 59 seconds into the second period to tie the game at one as he went coast to coast and landed in the left circle. Alaska made it 2-1 with a power-play goal 1:06 later before Simon Ferguson rolled one down the back of Aces goaltender Adam Courchaine at 10:37 of the second period to tie the game at two. The team-leading 16th goal of the year for Ferguson extended his scoring streak to seven-straight games. Brett Parnham picked up an assist on the play. Utah outshot Alaska 17-8 in the second period and killed off nearly six-straight minutes shorthanded to finish the period and keep the game 2-2 going to the third.

After 3:19 shorthanded to start the third, the Grizzlies took their first lead of the night 5:53 into the final period as Brock Wilson buried his third goal of the year as he took a pass from Hugo Carpentier that teammate Brian Kilburg originally was going to shoot. Wilson moved to a perfect angle and sent the puck in past a screened Alaska goaltender.

Utah hosts Alaska Wednesday and Las Vegas Friday and Saturday. Face-off all three nights is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
