Alaska Breaks Tie Late to Beat Utah

Utah Grizzlies News Release

West Valley City, Utah - The Alaska Aces broke a 2-2 tie with 2:18 left in regulation, scored 19 seconds later and added an empty-net goal to beat the Utah Grizzlies 5-2 Wednesday night at Maverik Center.

Utah built a 2-0 lead with two goals from Berkley Scott (3,4) 6:18 apart in the second period. Assists on both goals went to Ian Schultz. Alaska made it 2-1 31 seconds later on a shot from the blue line and tied the contest 3:14 into the third period.

"We scored two goals within six feet of the paint and we need more guys going to that area," said Grizzlies Head Coach Kevin Colley. "We need more out of everyone and being par is not good enough. The number one game plan tonight was stick with it no matter what and that goes to being mentally tough. We're a vulnerable group, we've been talking about this for a while. Adversity is staring us right in the eyes now. Are we working harder? No question. But guys need to challenge themselves as an individual to give more."

The Grizzlies debuted forward Alex Tuckerman and defenseman Martin Lee in the game a day after being acquired from San Francisco. "I loved the way Tuckerman and Lee came in, I thought it was a good game from them," said Colley.

The Grizzlies open three-games-in-three-nights Friday in Colorado. Face-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Utah returns home for Two-For-Tuesday February 26 to host San Francisco. Rinkside, center and corner plaza tickets are available for buy-one-get-one-free at the Maverik Center box office.
