Aerodynamics...

- Quiet Night...Neither the Aeros nor the Curve mustered much offensively last night, but Altoona mounted a late comeback to take the series opener 3-2. Both teams were held to just four hits apiece, which set a season-low for an Akron opponent. The Aeros led by a run entering the bottom of the seventh, but with two away Altoona's Brian Finegan, who played in Kinston last season with many of this year's Aeros, drove the third pitch of the night from reliever Jeff Stevens out to left field to tie the game at 2-2. Brad Corley then won it for the Curve in the eighth, beating out a potential inning-ending double play as James Boone scored the winning run.

- Huffing and Puffing...Akron wasted a great effort from starter David Huff last night, who turned in arguably the best performance the Aeros have received all season. Huff made one mistake early in the game, allowing a solo home run to leadoff man James Boone in the bottom of the first when a 2-2 pitch caught too much of the plate. After that however, Huff was magnificent. The left-hander allowed only three base runners the rest of the night, one on an error in the third and two on fourth-inning walks, and closed his performance by retiring the final nine batters he faced. He worked 6.2 innings to set a new season-high for an Aeros pitcher, and turned in only the second quality start of the season for Akron.

- Clairvoyant Catcher...Before Sunday's game in Bowie, DH Matt Whitney was shuffling a deck of cards in the clubhouse. C Chris Gimenez looked at Whitney and said "Toss me a card, I guarantee it'll be the nine of spades." Whitney looked at him with arched eyebrows, but shuffled twice more, grabbed a card, and flipped it across the table to Gimenez. Sure enough, it was the nine of spades. Gimenez was so excited he kept the card and taped it inside his batting helmet, and proclaimed "This is good for two walks and two knocks." Gimenez then went out and collected a single and a walk before the game was suspended Sunday, and yesterday, you guessed it, had two hits (including his second homer of the year) and two walks while driving in both Aeros runs. He has now reached base six straight times since the nine of spades came up.

- Slide Stopper...Although the Aeros have dropped three in a row and four of their last five entering play today, they do have RHP Frank Herrmann on the hill. Akron has not lost in any of Herrmann's three starts this year, including a win on day one of this week-long road trip Thursday in Bowie. Herrmann is also the only Aeros starter with a victory this year.

- Did You Know...Former Aeros outfielder Ben Francisco was recalled by Cleveland today when RHP Jake Westbrook was placed on the 15-day DL. Francisco was hitting .208 with three RBI in 17 games with Class AAA Buffalo.
