Texas AirHogs News Release

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - The AirHogs opened their 2nd home series of the season with a 7-1 loss at the hands of the Laredo Lemurs, who exploded for 6 runs in the top of the 9th to run away with the win. Burt Reynolds went deep for the AirHogs for the 4th time this year.

Ethan Carnes got the ball to start for the home team and dazzled in his 2nd start of the regular season. The former NY Yankees minor league went 7 innings, striking out 3 and giving up just 2 hits and 1 run.

The 4th HR of the year by Reynolds gave him an early advantage. The blast came in the bottom of the 3rd off Laredo starter Matt Sergey and gave Reynolds sole possession of the American Association lead in home runs.

Laredo would respond well in the top of the 4th, using a leadoff bunt by Ty Morrison, a throwing error by 3B Cody Lenahan, a walk and a sacrifice fly by Denis Phipps to tie the game against Carnes.

The lefty starter would hold them scoreless over the next 3 innings, but the AirHog offense mustered little after the 4th. C KJ Alexander would reach in that frame with a double and 2B Brian Bistagne boarded with a walk, but both were left on to end the inning. The team was unable to get anyone aboard against Sergey, who went 6, surrendering 5 hits, 1 run, and striking out 8, or relief men Kamakani Usui and Kyle Winkler, who combined for 3 scoreless and hitless frames.

With the game tied 1-1, Laredo boarded leadoff man Ty Morrison in the top of the 9th with a 3rd strike from Alan Oaks that got by Alexander. SS JD Pulfer would follow with a single and then 3B Travis Denker would blast his 3rd HR of the year to make it 4-1. The Lemurs would add 1 on a fielder's choice and then get a 2-run HR from C Matt Koch off the AirHogs' second relief man David Wayne Russo, building the advantage to 7-1.

The teams meet again tomorrow night at 7:05 pm at AirHogs Stadium. RHP Palmer Betts (1-0,3.37 ERA) is expected to start for the AirHogs.
