Texas AirHogs News Release
AMARILLO, Texas - The AirHogs rallied but ultimately fell short vs. the Wingnuts at Potter County Memorial Stadium Friday evening. The team cut an 8-run deficit to 4 but could not complete the comeback, falling 13-9. The Wingnuts got an early run off AirHogs starter Griffin Russell on a sacrifice fly by C Martin Medina. They would add 3 more on a 3-run homer by DH Brent Clevlen to make it 4-0 in the top of the 2nd.
The AirHogs used 4 straight hits from 3B Austin Gallagher, 1B Devon Rodriguez, C KJ Alexander, and RF Cody Lenahan to capitalize for 3 straight runs against Wichita starter Tim Brown to get back within 1.
But in the 4th and 5th, the Wingnuts broke it open. A 2-RBI single by RF Richard Prigatano highlighted a 3-run 4th and, in the 5th against Texas relief man Sam Martin, a 3-run homer by TJ Mittelstaedt made it 11-3.
The AirHogs would get late inning home runs from Brian Bistagne and Juan Sanchez, who each went deep for the 5th time this season, and 3 RBIs over the last 5 innings by Michael Hur, but the Wingnuts would allow the team no closer than 4.
The roundtrippers by Bistagne and Sanchez were the 31st and 32nd of the year for the AirHogs, who entered play Friday leading the American Association in that category.
Russell took the loss, his 2nd of the season, while Brown picked up his 2nd win despite surrendering 12 hits and 6 runs over 6 innings. Hur, Sanchez, Gallagher, Rodriguez, Alexander and Lenahan all finished with multiple hits for the AirHogs.
Texas (9-13) and Wichita (11-11) meet for Game 3 in the 4-game set tomorrow at 6:05. LHP Ethan Carnes is expected to start for the home team.
A live radio broadcast of the game will be available at mixlr.com/TXAirHogs.Ticketing information for the entire week-long homestand in Amarillo is available at airhogsbaseball.com.
