Aint No LaValley Low Enough in 6-4 Win

JUPITER, FL - Gavin LaValley crushed a two-out, two-strike, two-run homer in the top of the 10th inning to gave Daytona a 6-4 victory over the Jupiter Hammerheads Wednesday night at Roger Dean Stadium. Daytona has won five of their last six games and all three extra inning affairs.
Daytona took a 4-1 lead into the eighth, before blowing their sixth save of the year. Jupiter cashed in on an error, two wild pitches, a balk, a hit batter and a walk to score three runs to tie the game. It start with a Dexter Kjerstad single to left off RHP Austin Orewiler, making it 4-2. RHP Tanner Rainey then came in and allowed all three batters faced to reach base, before giving way to RHP Sarkis Ohanian. Rainey allowed a run on a balk, before Jupiter tied it on an Ohanian wild pitch.
With two outs in the top of the tenth, Nick Senzel laced a double to right off RHP Andy Beltre. LaValley followed it up with his sixth home run of the year on a 2-2 count to put Daytona in front for good.
The Tortugas built their lead with single tallies. First from a Daniel Sweet two-out RBI single in the third, driving home his sixth run of the year. An inning later, Daytona doubled it's lead when Blake Butler ripped a hot shot to third that Brian Schales couldn't handle for an error. Reydel Medina would add a run in the sixth with a sacrifice fly to center, driving home his seventh run of the year.
Ohanian (3-0) earned the win for his two scoreless innings of relief. He has won three of his first five appearances. RHP Robert Stock earned his first save, inducing a first-pitch double play ball with the tying run on-base in the 10th. Beltre (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing the two runs in his two innings.
The Tortugas wrap up their series in Jupiter Thursday morning at 10:30 AM. Daytona's RHP Vladimir Gutierrez (0-2, 6.28) will be opposed by RHP David Fischer (2-1, 0.00). Coverage begins at 10:20 AM on AM 1230 and AM 1490 WSBB.
Notes: Robert Stock earned his first save since July 30, 2015 with Bradenton...RHP Jose Lopez matched his Daytona career-high with seven strikeouts in a no-decision...Daytona's bullpen has blown six of eight saves since Geoff Broussard was promoted...LaValley now ranks second in the league in home runs (Alex Jackson, Florida - 7)
