The most notable change for the Iowa Wild comes with the move of the Charlotte Checkers from the Central Division to the Eastern Conference's Atlantic Division. Iowa's division has been reduced from eight teams to seven. The Eastern Conference welcomes new teams with the Belleville Senators, Binghamton Devils and the Laval Rocket - all in the North Division.
In addition, the Iowa Wild revealed its opponents breakdown for the 2017-18 season. Iowa will play a total of 12 games against the Rockford IceHogs, with six of those games at home against its closest geographical rival. The team will play Grand Rapids and Milwaukee a total of ten times, with each team hosting five home games. Chicago, Manitoba and Cleveland will each play the Wild four times at home and four times in Des Moines. In all, Iowa is slated to play 56 games against the Central Division.
The Wild will also see Pacific Division foes for a total of 20 regular season games. The San Antonio Rampage and the Wild will play a total of six times, with each team hosting three home games. Texas and Tucson will each play Iowa four times with a pair of home games for both teams. Iowa and Tucson will meet for the first time in AHL history in 2017-18. In addition, Iowa will make a visit to San Diego, Bakersfield and Ontario for one game, while hosting each team once throughout the year. Iowa and Bakersfield have never met in AHL history.
Opening Night 2017 is slated for Saturday, Oct. 7 with a complete 76-game regular season schedule announced at a later date during the summer.
