AFL Lineman of the Year and Key Veteran Players Join San Antonio Talons
SAN ANTONIO (November 26, 2012) - The San Antonio Talons have added two dynamic defensive linemen to their already explosive roster, Joe Sykes and Tim McGill.
Sykes (6-2, 280) was twice named Defensive Player of the Week during the 2012 season after he recorded 2.5 sacks and a 43-yard interceptions return for a touchdown.
Sykes also recorded 33 tackles, including a league-leading 18 for a loss, forced five fumbles, recovered two fumbles, and returned a blocked field goal for a touchdown on top of his pick-six. Sykes has also been named AFL's 2012 Defensive Lineman of the Year, and he earned first team All-Arena honors.
McGill (6-3, 330) has proven to be one of the strongest AFL players. He has posted three All-Arena selections as well was named as a finalist for the AFL's 2011 Defensive Lineman of the Year. In 2012 McGill showcased his skills on the way to becoming the first nose tackle in AFL history to post 10.0 sacks in a single season.
"Any time you can add two all-league caliber linemen to your roster as we have it sets your defense, and your entire team up for success on the field", said Recine. "Adding Joe Sykes and Tim McGill to our defensive line along side Victor Degrate gives us the best pass rush in the AFL. No other team in the AFL will line up three all-league players on their defensive line for the next two years and we are excited about what they will do together".Bottom of Form
