Aeros Rally Late, Down B-Mets in Game One of Series

BINGHAMTON, NY - The Akron Aeros scored six runs in the top of eighth inning and two in the top of the ninth to come from behind and win game one of a three-game series against the Binghamton Mets 10-8 Tuesday at NYSEG Stadium.
Right-hander Chen-Chang Lee recorded the win for the Aeros pitching 1.2 innings of relief, allowing one earned run on two hits, walking one and striking out three. Righty Cory Burns got out of a trouble in the bottom of the ninth inning to earn the save pitching a third of an inning.
Right-handed pitcher Joe Gardner got the start for the Aeros lasting 5.1 innings, giving up five runs (four earned) on six hits, walking one and striking out three.
Right-hander Ricky Brooks suffered the loss for the B-Mets pitching a third of an inning, giving up three earned runs on two hits and walking two.
The Aeros (34-37) got on the board in the top of the first inning. With two outs, Matt McBride and Beau Mills rapped back-to-back doubles to give Akron a 1-0 lead.
The B-Mets (23-45) answered in the bottom of the second inning. Allan Dykstra led off with a walk. Salomon Manriquez moved Dykstra to third with a double. Raul Reyes followed with a three-run home run to give Binghamton a 3-1 lead. Later in the frame, Jordanny Valdespin singled home Jonathan Malo to make it 4-1.
Akron got a run back in the top of the sixth inning. With two outs, Kyle Bellows walked and Karexon Sanchez singled. Juan Apodaca followed with an RBI single scoring Bellows and cutting the B-Mets lead to 4-2.
The B-Mets added two runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 6-2 lead.
The Aeros rallied in the top of the eighth inning. With two outs and a runner on first, Sanchez worked a walk. Apodaca followed with an RBI double to make it 6-3. Binghamton made a pitching change replacing Brandon Sage with Brooks. Following the change, Tim Fedroff walked to load the bases. Brooks walked Jordan Henry with the bases full to force home a run and make it 6-4. McBride doubled home two runs to tie the game 6-6. Mills followed hitting a two-RBI double to left field to give the Aeros an 8-6 lead.
Akron added two runs in the top of the ninth inning on a Bellows RBI single and a Fedroff RBI groundout to make it 10-6.
Binghamton scored twice in the bottom of the ninth inning, but Burns got out of a jam to give the Aeros the win.
The Aeros and B-Mets continue their three-game series Wednesday. Akron will give the ball to left-handed pitcher Matt Packer, who is 2-7 with a 5.65 ERA in 2011. He will face fellow southpaw Robert Carson, who is 2-7 with a 4.19 ERA this season. First pitch is at 6:35 p.m. The game can be heard on Fox Sports 1350 AM or online at sportsradio1350.com.
