3BAerodynamics...

I'm Running Out of Creative Ways to Say "We Got Rained Out"...You might have a hard time believing this, but the Aeros and Reading got rained out yesterday. This shocking development came on the heels of a rainout Sunday at home, a scheduled off day Monday, and postponements Tuesday and Wednesday in Altoona because of unplayable field conditions before the Aeros and Curve finally squeezed in a doubleheader Thursday. For those scoring at home, Akron has played a grand total of two games in the last six days. Top intern Brendan Bittner pointed out that the Aeros suffered through a similar stretch in 2006, with rainouts three straight days from May 11th-13th, a doubleheader with Harrisburg on the 14th, and then postponements again on the 15th and 16th for another two-games-in-six-days stretch.

Congrats, Michael...Ex-Aero Michael Aubrey officially got the call today, as Cleveland promoted the former first round pick to the Major Leagues. The former Tulane University star has battled injuries ever since signing as the 11th overall pick in 2003, but rebounded this season to hit .277 with two home runs and 16 RBI in the opening month with Akron before torching the International League for a .341 average in just 11 games with Class AAA Buffalo. Aubrey had not played above the Double-A level prior to this season. He takes the roster spot of LHP Jeremy Sowers, who was optioned back to Buffalo.

Hufflepuff...Four days of sitting and waiting for Mother Nature to cooperate with the game schedule may have played havoc with Akron's starting rotation, but the long layoff didn't seem to affect Akron starter David Huff in the slightest. Working for the first time in eight days, the left-hander led the Aeros to a 3-0 victory over Altoona in game one of Thursday's twin bill before Akron fell 3-2 in game two. The former UCLA standout tossed a three-hit shutout and allowed just one runner to get as far as second base in the victory, and needed just 68 pitches to do it. The game marked the first complete-game shutout of three hits or less for an Akron starter since Bear Bay tossed a two-hit gem June 9th, 2006 against Connecticut (nine innings).

Counting Crowe...The Aeros were greeted by a pleasant sight when the team bus rolled into the hotel here in Reading Thursday night, as outfielder Trevor Crowe was there to greet the bus and give hugs to all his teammates (although a visibly uncomfortable Ryan Goleski termed the affection "unnecessary"). Crowe missed 35 games with a strained back and has appeared in just two games this season, going 1-7 with three walks in the opening series at Binghamton in early April.

Did You Know...Brandon Pinckney carries a seven-game hitting streak into tonight's game, during which he is hitting .375 (9-24) with a pair of multi-hit games to raise his average to his current high-water mark of .244. Incredibly, Pinckney has not drawn a walk over his streak, nor has he drawn a walk all season in 45 at-bats.
