Aeros Made a Series of Roster Moves Today

May 12, 2009 - Eastern League (EL1)
Akron RubberDucks News Release

The Aeros made a series of roster moves today, as OF John Drennen was transferred to Class A Kinston and RHP Erik Stiller was transferred to Class A Mahoning Valley. Taking their places are OF Matt McBride from Kinston and LHP Ryan Edell from Class AAA Columbus.

Drennen, Akron's Opening Night right fielder, was batting .191 with one home run and 10 RBI in 21 games. Stiller started yesterday in Akron's 3-1 defeat to Bowie and suffered the loss, although all three runs were unearned against him. He is still expected to make his next start.

McBride comes to Akron as one of the hottest hitters on the planet, leading all of minor league baseball with 51 hits and 36 RBI, while also ranking in the top-five in batting average (.405 - fourth), doubles (15 - second), extra-base hits (21 - tied for third), and total bases (84 - third). He is starting in right field tonight and will wear #36. Edell appeared in one game for Akron to start the season, working two scoreless innings on relief April 9th after serving as a starter for all of last season with the Aeros. He was then promoted to Columbus April 12th and made nine appearances for the Clippers (all in relief), going 0-2 with a 6.91 ERA. He has been tabbed as the starter for tonight's 7:05 p.m. tilt against Bowie, with scheduled starter Hector Rondon shifting to a relief role. Edell will once again wear #43.
