Aeros Late Surge Leads to Dramatic 3-2 OT Win

Houston, TX - The Houston Aeros (34-24-5-5, 78 points) defeated the San Antonio Rampage (29-31-2-6, 66 points) 3-2 in overtime on Thursday night in front of 3,578 fans at Toyota Center. Rookie right wing Jason Zucker scored the last two goals of the contest, including the game-tying goal and the overtime winner 1:56 into the extra session. Center Char Rau started the three-goal rally early in the third period, helping the Aeros erase a 2-0 deficit. Houston goalie Cody Reichard (2-1-1) grabbed the win with 15 saves on 17 shots, ending the club's four-game winless skid (0-2-1-1). San Antonio goalie Dov Grumet-Morris (12-17-4) carried a shutout into the final period, before surrendering the lead with 5:45 remaining in regulation. He finished with 40 saves on 43 Houston shots. The Aeros will host Chicago at 7:05 p.m. on Friday at Toyota Center.

San Antonio picked up the game's first goal at 15:42 of the opening period. Forward Scott Timmons beat goalie Cody Reichard for his 11th of the season. Jack Combs and Alex Petrovic helped set up the only goal of the first period.

San Antonio made it a 2-0 game at 11:46 of the second period. Forcing a turnover in the Houston zone, Rampage defenseman George Hughes rifled a cross-ice pass to Jack Combs. With a one-timer, Combs scored his 11th goal of the season for the two-goal cushion.

Houston scored just 42 seconds into the third period, trimming the deficit to 2-1. Rampage forward Scott Timmons attempted to clear the puck and accidently sent the puck off the helmet of Houston center Chad Rau. The puck dropped into the San Antonio net for Rau's 12th goal of the season. Houston tied the game 2-2 at 14:15 of the final frame. David McIntyre found Jason Zucker in the San Antonio slot. Zucker spun and fired a backhand shot past Grumet-Morris for his 21st goal of the season.

In the extra session, Houston held the puck in the Rampage zone. Defenseman Brian Connelly held the puck in at the blueline and sent a pass to Tyler Cuma at the point. Cuma blasted a shot to the San Antonio net and Zucker swung in to grab the rebound, netting his 22nd goal of the season for the 3-2 win 1:56 into overtime.

Houston continues a ten-game home stand at Toyota Center on Friday night with the Chicago Wolves at 7:05 p.m. The game is presented by Houston Eye Associates. The first 3,500 patrons will be given an Aeros magnetic picture frame, compliments of Houston Eye Associates. Sunday, Houston will host Hamilton at 5:05 p.m. at Toyota Center. For Sunday's game the Aeros will celebrate Canada Night.
