Akron RubberDucks News Release

AKRON, OH - The Akron Aeros (5-2) protected their home field for the second straight night, defeating the Trenton Thunder (3-5), 2-1 at Canal Park in front of a crowd of 2,441.

Trenton jumped out in front early in the first inning. Zoilo Almonte drew a two-out walk, followed by a Cody Johnson single to left. The ensuing hitter, Melky Mesa, walked, setting up a bases loaded-walk by Jose Gil, plating Almonte, giving the Thunder a 1-0 advantage. The Aeros would knot the game at one apiece in the bottom of the fifth. Back-to-back doubles by Tim Fedroff and Juan Diaz brought home the tying run. Jared Goedert singled to shallow center, advancing Diaz to third. Diaz was later plated courtesy of a Nick Weglarz single to center, putting the Aeros back on top, 2-1.

Steven Wright, 1-0, 1.80 entering the night, put together 5.2 innings of work, allowing a run on two hits, walking four and striking out seven. Toru Murata came on in relief of Wright with two outs in the sixth, lasting 1 1/3 innings, yielding two hits. Cody Allen, making his first appearance since being promoted from Single-A Carolina on Friday, took over in the top of the eighth. Allen finished the final two innings, striking out two without allowing a hit.
