Admirals Take Down San Antonio

Milwaukee, WI-- Playing their first game in nearly a week, the Milwaukee Admirals used a strong offensive attack to turn back the San Antonio Rampage 4-2 Friday night at the Bradley Center.

Mike Santorelli posted his fourth multi-point effort of the season to lead Milwaukee to the victory. Santorelli's first period power-play goal snapped a 1-for-40 power-play slump that the Admirals were mired in and jump started the offense.

San Antonio started out fast as they opened the scoring 7:32 into the first period. Rampage forward Ryan Hollweg fired a low shot off Mark Dekanich's pads, sending the rebound to MacGregor Sharp in the slot. Sharp put the puck in an open net to give San Antonio an early one goal lead.

The Admirals responded with Santorelli's power-play marker halfway through the first period. Robert Dietrich corralled the puck at the near point and found Cal O'Reilly in the center of the ice. O'Reilly dished it over to Mike Santorelli whose backhand shot was deflected by a Rampage defender and beat San Antonio goaltender Justin Pogge top shelf.

Peter Olvecky tipped in another shot less than two minutes later to give Milwaukee a 2-1 lead. Mark Matheson moved the puck to Andreas Thuresson who took a hard low shot, allowing Olvecky to redirect the puck past Pogge for his sixth goal of the season.

The Admirals struck again when Wacey Rabbit scored from below the goal line. Ryan Maki, who was playing his first game in over six weeks, knocked the puck into the near corner where it was picked up by Chris Mueller. Mueller moved the puck cross ice to Rabbit who proceeded to backhand the puck off Pogge's right skate and into the net, giving Milwaukee a 3-1 lead going into the first intermission.

The Admirals nearly struck again when Colin Wilson clanged a shot off the post as the two teams played 4-on-4 with six minutes remaining in the second period. However, both net minders held strong in the second, stopping a combined 17 shots on goal in the frame.

However, Wilson wouldn't be denied twice as he scored his first goal as an Admiral 1:19 into the third period. After Wilson won a draw to the right of Pogge, Santorelli wristed a shot to the net. Nick Spaling's rebound attempt was turned away, but Wilson buried his chance as Milwaukee took a 4-1 lead.

San Antonio's Matt Watkins lit the lamp with less than two minutes to play to make the final score 4-2, but it was too little too late.

Dekanich re-routed 24 of San Antonio's 26 shots, earning a victory in his first start since being recalled from Cincinnati. Ryan Maki also found the score sheet in his return to the Milwaukee line-up. Eleven different Admirals managed to find the scoresheet on the night.

The Admirals now head out on a four-game road trip, beginning tomorrow in Grand Rapids. The Admirals next home game is Sunday, December 20 against this same San Antonio team.
