Milwaukee Admirals News Release
MILWAUKEE - The Admirals defeated the San Antonio Rampage Friday night 5-4 in overtime at the BMO Harris Bradley Center. Milwaukee defensemen Mike Moore scored the game-winning goal 2:29 into the extra period to secure the win for Milwaukee.
Daniel Bang shot it from the top of the right circle and Rampage goalie Jacob Markstrom could not handle it and it came off his shoulder. Moore was in prime positioning as the puck came right to him and he knocked it out of midair and past Markstrom.
However, the Ads wouldn't have been in OT if it weren't for Chris Mueller, who scored two times in the game's final minute to level the score.
Mueller brought the Ads within a goal with one minute left in the game. He gathered the puck off a ricochet from a Brad Winchester shot and turned to snipe the puck between the legs of Markstrom, as he was skating backward.
In almost a repeat scenario Mueller evened the score with :21 left in the game as the puck dropped to him in front of the net off a Winchester shot. There was a scrum in front of the net with no one in control of the puck until it landed at the end of Mueller's stick and he flipped it past a falling Markstrom.
The Admirals carried their momentum to an overtime win.
Former Admiral Mike Santorelli was a pest for Milwaukee early on as he created room in front of the net and rung a shot off the post that came back perfectly for Quinton Howden who put it past Ads goalie Magnus Hellberg glove side less than four minutes into the period.
Mattias Ekholm made a noticeable return to action, playing his first game since December 27th, as he scored the first goal of the night for the Admirals at 9:11 in the first period. Ekholm took a pass from Austin Watson and ripped a shot from the top of the left circle beating Markstrom stick side.
Santorelli continued troubling the Ads as he scored a power goal as the Rampage were on a 5-on-3 advantage at 11:58.
Another former Admiral Jed Ortmeyer added to San Antonio's lead putting a slapshot past Hellberg during a power play, giving the Rampage two power play goals in the first period.
San Antonio's ability to capitalize on their power play opportunities gave them a 3-1 lead heading into the second period.
Taylor Beck pulled the Admirals within one early into the second period with a power play goal. Chris Mueller found Beck open between the circles, Beck settled the pass and veered around a defender to an opening and found Markstrom out of position. Beck pushed it up into the upper right corner of the net to light the lamp.
San Antonio put a fourth goal on the board midway through the third period when Jared Gomes redirected a shot from Rampage defensemen Zach Miskovic that caught Hellberg out of position.
The Admirals pulled Hellberg from the net with a little over a minute left in the third period to set the stage for Mueller and Moore's heroics.
Brad Winchester had four points off of four assists on the last four goals of the game, including the game winner. Chris Mueller tallied three points in the game with two goals in under a minute, and an assist on Taylor Beck's goal.
