Admirals Look To Right The Ship In Texas

OVERALL...The Admirals enter this week's action in fourth place in the West Division on the strength of a 35-24-1-6 record and 77 points. The Ads trail third place Texas by four points and have seen their lead over fifth place San Antonio shrink to four points for the final playoff spot in the division. However, the Admirals, who have dropped four of their last five games, have played the least amount of games of any team in the division and have three games in hand on the Rampage. Milwaukee concludes a four-game homestand tonight against the Wolves before heading down to Texas for a three game swing through the Lone Star State, their final extended roadtrip of the season.

LAST WEEK...The Admirals split a pair of games last week at the Bradley Center. The Ads picked up a 5-1 victory over the Lake Erie Monsters Wednesday night, their first ever win over the Monsters in regulation. Mike Santorelli posted a pair of markers for the Admirals, his fifth mulit-goal game of the season, while Mark Matheson chipped in with a pair of assists. Mark Dekanich turned aside 30 shots to earn his 21st win of the season. Then on Saturday night Milwaukee dropped a 3-2 decision to Toronto, despite outshooting the Marlies 29-17. Dave Scatchard and Ben Guite lit the lamp for Milwaukee.

BEWARE THE IDES OF MARCH...The Admirals have gotten off to a rough start in the month of March, winning just one time in fives games and posting a 1-3-0-1 record. In their four losses the Milwaukee offense has managed just seven goals, but in the lone victory the Ads registered five tallies. The Admirals still have plenty of time to turn things around as they play eight games the remainder of the month. Milwaukee has not had a losing record in a calendar month since they went 3-4-0-1 record in October of 2009.

NOT SO SPECIAL TEAMS...The Admirals 3-2 loss to Toronto last Saturday night can be boiled down to the play of the special teams, a match-up the Ads lost on both fronts. Two of the three goals that the Marlies scored were on the man-advantage, out of five chances, while Milwaukee couldn't muster a power-play goal in seven attempts including a third-period five-on-three opportunity. The drought on the PP was surprising given the Admirals had picked up a power-play goal in five out of their previous six games, converting on 32% of their chances in that time.

BACK ON THE BOARD...Center Ben Guite got back in the scoring column with his seventh goal of the season just 12 seconds into the third period on Wednesday night against the Monsters. It was the first time he had lit the lamp since January 29 against Houston. The Montreal native also tallied a goal on Saturday night, marking the second time this season he has posted goals in back-to-back games. His marker against Lake Erie was the fastest goal to start a period this year for Milwaukee, eclipsing the old mark of 20 seconds, set on October 9 by Andreas Thuresson against Peoria.

NO HATS YET...Admirals center Mike Santorelli lit the lamp twice last Wednesday against Lake Erie, the 13th time this season that an Admiral has scored two goals in a game and the fifth by Santorelli. However Milwaukee is yet to have a player tally a hat trick. In addition to Santorelli, Jon Blum and Chris Mueller have both notched a pair of goals in a game twice this season, while Triston Grant, Robert Dietrich, Dave Scatchard, and Hugh Jessiman have all done it once. The last Admirals hat trick was scored by Santorelli on March 29 of last season against Chicago.

HUGH GETS HOT...Hugh Jessiman picked up an assist on Wednesday night against Lake Erie and now shows at least a point in six out of his last eight games. The New York native is currently sixth on the team with 33 points on 17 goals and 16 assists and ranks third on the team with 87 penalty minutes while playing in all 66 games thus far. Jessiman has a good chance to set career highs in goals (20), assists (24), points (42) and games played (71).

BIG CROWDS...The Admirals drew a season-high 15,253 fans last Saturday night in their loss to Toronto, their largest crowd since they had 15,602 on March 28 last year. Milwaukee has had six crowds of over 10,000 fans this season, the most they have had in a year since joining the AHL in 2001-02. Contrary to popular belief, the Admirals have had success when playing in front of big crowds. Since the 2005-06 season the Ads have drawn over 10,000 fans 21 times and their record in those games stands at 13-7-0-1, a.619 points percentage.
