March 9, 2009 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Norfolk Admirals News Release

NORFOLK, VA - The Norfolk Admirals will conclude a five-game road trip this week before returning to Scope next week to kick off a seven-game homestand.

Last week, the Admirals won three of five games during a stretch of five games in six days. Juraj Simek had a goal and an assist and Riku Helenius stopped 27 of 28 shots as the Admirals topped the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 3-1 on Tuesday night at The Arena at Harbor Yard. Wednesday night, Blair Jones scored twice, but a bad bounce hurt Norfolk late in the game as they fell to the Philadelphia Phantoms 4-3 at the Wachovia Center. The Admirals returned to Scope on Friday night, as Blair Jones scored twice again, Riku Helenius made 31 saves and the penalty kill stopped all eight chances in a 4-1 victory over the Lowell Devils. The Admirals and Devils squared off again on Saturday at Scope, as Norfolk scored twice on the power play and received a 26-save effort from Riku Helenius to sweep the weekend set with a 2-1 win. The Admirals kicked off their five-game road trip on Sunday, as the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins used three power play goals in the first period to power past Norfolk 4-1 on Sunday evening at the Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza.

Norfolk will complete the last four legs of a five-game road trip this week with contests in Albany Wednesday night, Binghamton Friday and Saturday nights and Philadelphia Sunday evening.
