Admirals Fall in Syracuse, Now in a Four-Way Tie in Playoff Race

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Norfolk Admirals (37-32-4-1) fell to the Syracuse Crunch (42-21-6-5), 6-1, on Friday night at Onondaga County War Memorial at Oncenter.

Patrick Maroon netted his team-leading 25th goal of the season in the setback. Norfolk goaltender Frederik Andersen (24-16-1) stopped nine of 12 shots in the first period for the loss. He was relieved by John Gibson, who made his professional debut and stopped 18 of 21 shots without receiving a decision in 40 minutes of work.

The Admirals are now tied with the Manchester Monarchs, Hershey Bears and Connecticut Whale with 79 points for seventh place in the AHL's Eastern Conference. Only two of the four teams can qualify for the playoffs. Norfolk, Manchester and Hershey each have two games remaining in the regular season while Connecticut closes out their regular season tomorrow night in Portland. The Monarchs, Bears and Whale each hold tiebreakers over the Admirals.

The Admirals take on the Albany Devils tomorrow at 5:00 p.m. from New York.

Tyler Johnson netted three goals for Syracuse while Mike Angelidis, J.T. Wyman and Vladislav Namestnikov each had a single goal. Crunch goaltender Cedrick Desjardins (14-18-3) stopped 26 of 27 shots for the win.

Norfolk was 0-for-3 on the power play. Syracuse was 0-for-1.
