Norfolk Admirals News Release

LOVELAND, CO.-Colorado scored the first three goals of the night and the Admirals weren't able to catch up as Norfolk fell 6-3 on Friday in Loveland.

Forward Trevor Mingoia continued his season-opening scoring streak netting a goal for the four straight game this season, and his sixth straight dating back to last season. Defenseman Joonas Lyytinen, who was assigned to Norfolk on Thursday, notched his first ECHL goal in his North American debut.

The Eagles were the only team that found the back of the net in the first period. Rookie Gage Ausmus got his first career goal under four minutes into play. The defenseman walked into the high slot before snapping a wrist shot past Jamie Murray in the Admirals net. Aumus' goal gave Colorado a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.

In the second the Colorado offense would score four times, pushing the lead to 5-1 by the time the period ended. The first four minutes of the period saw a total of three goals between the teams. Colorado's Brady Shaw and Michael Joly scored 0:32 seconds apart to give Colorado a 3-0 lead just 2:49 into the period. Norfolk's Tim Daly would get the Admirals on the board about a minute later. Taking a pass from Erik Bradford, Daly snapped a shot into the far corner over the glove of Sam Brittain. Daly's goal, his first of the season, cut the lead to 3-1. The Eagles would extend the lead to four goals though, getting tallies from Collin Bowman and Matt Register before the period ended.

Norfolk wasted no time getting back on the board at the start of the third period. Angelo Miceli fed Trevor Mingoia who netted his team-leading fifth goal. Mingoia's tally cut the lead to 5-2 just 0:37 into the final frame. Colorado's Brady Shaw picked up his second goal of the night six minutes later to give the Eagles a four-goal lead once again. With a late opportunity on the man-advantage Norfolk capitalized to round out the scoring. Joonas Lyytinen picked up the puck and walked the blue-line before wristing a shot short-side past Brittain for his first ECHL goal.

Jamie Murray finished the night with 30 saves on 36 shots in the loss. Norfolk and Colorado wrap up the weekend series tomorrow night.
