Norfolk Admirals News Release

NORFOLK, Va. - Goaltender Kevin Lalande stopped 33 shots to lead the Syracuse Crunch (13-19-3-3) past the Norfolk Admirals (16-20-2-0) 4-1 on Friday night at Norfolk Scope Arena. The same two teams will meet tomorrow night at Scope as a five-game homestand for the Admirals continues.

Norfolk took a 1-0 lead just 1:07 into the game on the power play. Defenseman Kenny Macaulay made a great play at the left point to keep the puck in the Syracuse zone after a Crunch clearing attempt. Macaulay then spotted an open Juraj Simek at the right point. Simek skated into the right circle and sent a wrist shot over Lalande's glove from just before the faceoff dot for his tenth goal of the season.

Syracuse knotted the score at one goal apiece just over ten minutes later on a power play of their own. Brendan Bell sent a pass from the top of the left circle toward the top of the right circle. Jonathan Sigalet one-timed the pass through traffic and over the left shoulder of Tokarski at 11:44.

The Crunch took a two-goal lead with a pair of markers mid-way through the second stanza. Jared Aulin made it 2-1 in favor of the visitors at 7:06. Aulin accepted a pass at the left circle and skated toward the hashmarks at the edge of the slot before sending a wrist shot through the leg pads of Tokarski.

The Crunch used a five-on-three power play to take a 3-1 lead nearly three minutes later. Dan Fritsche sent a pass from the top of the right circle toward the left circle. Bell then one-timed the pass into the net at 9:42.

Former Admiral Michael Blunden closed out scoring at 15:44 of the final frame. Mike Radja sent a shot from the point that got through Tokarski and landed in the crease. Blunden punched it in for his third goal of the season.

Dustin Tokarski (40 shots, 36 saves) took the loss. Kevin Lalande (34 shots, 33 saves) earned the victory.

Norfolk was 1-5 on the power play. Syracuse was 2-6.

The Admirals and Crunch will square off again tomorrow night at Scope. Tomorrow is Special Olympics Night, presented by SunTrust, and 2010 Pro Sports Calendar Giveaway Night, courtesy of Independent Lighting. A limited amount of 2010 Pro Sports Calendars featuring the Admirals and Norfolk Tides will be given away at the gates.
