Admirals Assign Guentzel and Schaus to Fort Wayne

NORFOLK - The Norfolk Admirals announced today that defensemen Nick Schaus and Gabe Guentzel have been assigned to the team's ECHL affiliate, the Fort Wayne Komets.

Guentzel, 6-foot-0, 185-pounds, has appeared in 30 games with the Admirals this season, recording five assists and 22 penalty minutes. He has appeared in 42 career AHL games between the Admirals and Syracuse Crunch, posting five assists and 28 penalty minutes. He also appeared in four Calder Cup Playoff games last year with the Crunch, registering one assist and two penalty minutes.

Guentzel has appeared in three games with the Komets in 2012-13, posting one goal and four points. Norfolk signed Guentzel to an AHL Standard Player's Contract on September 21, 2012. An undrafted defenseman, Guentzel joined the Crunch at the end of last season after completing his collegiate career at Colorado College, where he scored 16 goals and 94 points in 156 career games.

Schaus, 5-foot-11, 200-pounds, has appeared in 18 games with the Admirals this season, netting a goal and three points with 17 penalty minutes. A 26-year-old native of Orchard Park, New York, Schaus has appeared in 144 career AHL games between the Worcester Sharks, Syracuse Crunch and Norfolk Admirals, netting nine goals and 33 points with 95 penalty minutes. In 14 career Calder Cup Playoff games between the Sharks and Crunch, Schaus has notched five assists and 23 penalty minutes.

In 24 career ECHL games between the Komets and Elmira Jackals, Schaus has recorded two goals and 12 points with 20 penalty minutes. Prior to turning pro, Schaus appeared in 148 games over four seasons at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. He registered 29 goals and 83 points with 220 penalty minutes. An undrafted defenseman, Schaus signed as a free agent with the San Jose Sharks following the conclusion of his collegiate career. Schaus signed an AHL Standard Player's Contract with the Admirals on September 21, 2012.

The Admirals return to Scope tonight to host the Charlotte Checkers at 7:30 p.m. in M.S. Awareness Night. Fans are urged to wear orange in support of M.S. Awareness.
