adidas unveils 2006 Chivas USA uniform

January 20, 2006 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Club Deportivo Chivas USA News Release

PHILADELPHIA (Friday, January 20, 2005) - adidas today presented Chivas USA's new uniform for the 2006 Major League Soccer season, in a ceremony held before the 2006 MLS SuperDraft, which took place in the Pennsylvania Convention Center. Chivas USA forward Arturo Torres participated in the ceremony, while, in a separate photo shoot at The Home Depot Center, Ramón Ramírez also modeled the new kit (see photos attached). Also presented was the official 2006 MLS match ball, also made by adidas.

The most striking innovation of Chivas USA's 2006 kits are the stripes, in which Chivas USA will play both at home and on the road, bearing the Red-and-White colors that for a century have symbolized the pride and tradition of Chivas, Mexico's most beloved soccer club.

In addition, the colors have been aligned with those of Chivas Guadalajara, Chivas USA's sister club, so that in the centenary year of Chivas both teams play in the same shades of red, white and navy blue. adidas also manufactured Chivas USA's uniforms in its inaugural season, 2005.

Chivas USA's 2006 home jersey bears vertical red-and-white stripes, with red sleeves and shoulders surrounding the main design. The 2006 away jersey also is striped, though the stripes are wider and fewer in number, and the sleeves and shoulders are white. Chivas USA will also have a third kit for those matches in which it cannot play either of its two main jerseys.
