Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Charles Linglet factored in all three Alaska goals as the Aces took a commanding 2-0 lead in their best-of five West Division semi-final with a 3-1 victory over Bakersfield before 6,251 at Sullivan Arena.

Alaska, which had welcomed eight capacity crowds during the regular season, gave another packed house something to cheer about early as Linglet tapped a centering pass from Scott Gomez between Condor goalie Davis ParleyÂ’s legs off the rush on a power play just 1:43 into the game. The game was played at an uneven pace for much of the second period, but the Aces pushed the margin to two by scoring off the rush in the frameÂ’s final minutes, as Oliver Filion scored his first goal since February 18 on a wrist shot from the right circle at 19:07.

Brett Lutes, who had scored both of BakersfieldÂ’s goals in AlaskaÂ’s 5-2 win Tuesday, brought the Condors within one by flipping a backhander by Aces starter Peter Aubry with 12:39 remaining. Aubry preserved the 2-1 lead with two point-blank stops of Brad Mehalko and later stoned Connor James on a shorthanded breakaway. During that same Alaska power play, which had been created by another penalty on Lutes, Chris Minard gave the Aces their winning margin by banging home a rebound of a Ryan Gaucher shot with 3:29 remaining. For the second straight night, Aubry finished with 23 saves in picking up the victory between the pipes, with Matt Underhill slated to start tomorrow. Alaska out-shot the Condors 38-24.

The Aces look to post their second consecutive first round playoff sweep tomorrow night in Bakersfield at 6:00 p.m. AST. If necessary, Game 4 also will be played in Rabobank Arena Saturday at 6:00 p.m. AST, with the fifth and deciding game scheduled for Monday, April 18, at 7:15 p.m. in Sullivan Arena.

All of AlaskaÂ’s first round playoff games will be broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM and also will be made available on a pay-per-view basis at www.alaskaaces.com, courtesy of B2 Networks. For additional 2005 Kelly Cup playoff information or 2005-06 season tickets, please call 258-ACES.
