May 26, 2009 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Reno Aces News Release
Reno, Nev.- Aces first basemen Josh Whitesell hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning Monday night, giving Reno its fourth-straight victory in front of 6,123 fans at Aces Ballpark.
Reno trailed 4-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth when it mounted a two-out rally. Luke Carlin doubled, Trent Oeltjen and Abraham Nunez hit back-to-back singles, and Oeltjen scored on a double-steal attempt to pull the Aces to within one run. Alex Romero's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh tied the game at 4-4, before Whitesell ended the game with his ninth-inning heroics.
Aces starter Bryan Augenstein allowed four earned runs in six innings of work in his Triple-A debut. After Jason Urquidez pitched a scoreless seventh inning, Travis Blackley (1-3) struck out four RedHawks batters in the final two frames to earn the win.
Bryan Corey (1-2) got the loss after giving up the game-winning run in the ninth.
For the Aces, Oeltjen went 2-for-4 with one RBI and his league-leading seventh triple, and Whitesell went 2-for-3 with two RBI, including the game-winner. Romero also had two hits, raising his average to .325.
Monday's win extends the Aces season-long winning streak to four games.
The same two teams will face off Tuesday night, with Reno sending RHP Tony Barnette (2-4, 6.60 ERA) to the mound to face-off against RHP Neftali Feliz (2-1, 3.82 ERA). First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. PT. On Tuesday, former Major League stars Ken Griffey Sr. and George Foster will be on-hand. The duo will toss out the ceremonial first pitch and will sign autographs on the concourse, with proceeds to benefit the Ken Griffey Sr. Foundation, which aims to help at-risk youth.
Wednesday's and Thursday's game times will be 11:35 am, as the Aces host back-to-back Education Days at Aces Ballpark.
