Reno Aces News Release
RENO - The Reno Aces opened the second half of the season with a 4-2 victory over the Oklahoma City Dodgers on Thursday night before a crowd of 5,039 at Greater Nevada Field. Reno capitalized on an OKC throwing error to break a 2-2 tie in the eighth, and right-hander Zack Godley (@godleyzt) kept the Aces in the game with his third quality effort in six starts for Reno.
After Godley recorded all six outs via strikeout in the first two innings, the Aces (47-44) got on the board in the bottom of the second. Zach Borenstein hit a one-out single and advanced to third on Gabby Guerrero's base hit before scoring on a sacrifice fly by Carlos Rivero (@Carlos_Rivero3).
Oklahoma City (52-38) evened the score at one in the fourth, when Corey Brown hit a solo home run. Reno then regained the lead at 2-1 with three singles in the home half, the last an RBI base hit off the bat of Godley to plate Rivero.
The clubs traded zeros for three frames until the Dodgers tied the game at two in the eighth. After Evan Marshall (@emarsh31) relieved Godley, Oklahoma City got a leadoff single and a stolen base to set up a run-scoring base hit. Reno then re-took the lead, this time for good, in the home half on a Borenstein fielder's choice and an OKC throwing error that allowed Mitch Haniger (@M_Hanny19) to score the go-ahead run. Peter O'Brien followed Haniger's leadoff walk with a single, and he scored an insurance run on a sacrifice fly by Guerrero in the next at-bat to provide the final margin in the Aces' 4-2 win.
Haniger paced Reno with two hits, including his seventh double in 32 Triple-A games. Guerrero notched his first RBI in six games dating back to July 5, while Godley drove in a run for the second time this year (also: May 20 vs. Mississippi).
Godley pitched seven innings, allowing one earned run on six hits (one home run) with one walk and a season-high nine strikeouts. In six starts for Reno, the South Carolina native now has twice worked seven or more frames while allowing one earned run or less.
The Aces and OKC Dodgers continue their four-game series with game two on Friday, when first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PT. Right-hander John Omahen (0-1, 8.53) will start for Reno, while righty Jose De Leon (1-0, 3.03) gets the ball for Oklahoma City.
