Aces Take 7-5 Victory over Storm Chasers
May 9, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1) - Reno Aces News Release
RENO, Nev.-RHP Zeke Spruill dealt a quality outing for Reno, and Chris Owings recorded three RBI in a 7-5 victory over the Omaha Storm Chasers in the first game of the series on Wednesday night at Aces Ballpark.
The squads were tied at one entering the fifth inning, when Omaha RHP Nate Adcock was ejected from the game. LHP George Sherrill entered the game, and gave up a two-RBI double to Owings, the first batter he faced. A sacrifice fly by Brad Snyder drove in Owings to give Reno a 4-1 edge.
Omaha pushed across two runs in the top of the next frame, but a towering home run to right center field by Kila Ka'aihue gave the Aces an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh. The Storm Chasers forced another tie in the top of the eighth, but a bases loaded walk followed by an RBI single from Owings gave Reno a final 7-5 lead.
At the dish for Reno, Owings went 2-for-5, and Matt Davidson went 2-for-4 with a double, triple and an RBI. Alfredo Marte, in his first game at Aces Ballpark, went 3-for-4 with a run scored.
Spruill followed up his successful Triple-A debut from last week, but did not factor into the decision. He went 7.0 innings, and gave up three runs-two earned-on seven hits, while walking two and striking out three. RHP Warner Madrigal was charged with a blown save, but earned the win. He let two-of-three inherited runners score, but was not charged with a run and gave up only one hit through the final two innings of the game.
RHP Dan Wheeler was charged with his third loss of the season for Omaha. He gave up two runs on two hits in just a third of an inning pitched.
The series continues Thursday night with a doubleheader at Aces Ballpark. RHP Chase Anderson will get the nod for Reno in Game One, while the Storm Chasers will counter with LHP Justin Marks. Game Two will pit Reno RHP Garrett Mock against a yet to be announced starter for Omaha. First pitch for Game One is set for 4:00 p.m. PT, with Game Two starting approximately one half hour after the conclusion of the first game.
Fans can enjoy another Coors Light Thirsty Thursday(tm) presented by New West Distributing, ESPN Radio 94.5 FM and Reno News & Review, with beer specials beginning at 5:30 p.m. and lasting through the middle of the fifth inning of the second game.
Tickets are on sale for Thursday's game, and all Aces home games, at RenoAces.com, by calling (775) 334-7000 or by visiting the Aces Ballpark Ticket Office.
