Aces Sweep Bees, Score 49 Runs in Series

RENO, Nev. - The Reno Aces (18-11) swept the Salt Lake Bees (15-14) Friday evening at Greater Nevada Field, marking their first perfect series, defeating the Bees in the final game 9-7. Jack Reinheimer and Carlos Rivero highlighted the offense for the Aces, who combined for five RBI on the night. Eric Jokisch (1-0), who made his second start for Reno, picked up his first win after battling through six and two-third innings.

Salt Lake got the hot start in the top of the first after back-to-back singles led to a three-run home run by Dustin Ackley to give the Bees the early 3-0 advantage.

The Aces, who totaled 40 runs in the previous three games, restarted their scoring ways in the bottom of the second with two runs after back-to-back singles and a double by Reinheimer to minimize the deficit to a run. In the third, after Ildemaro Vargas led the inning off with a single, Ketel Marte hit a line drive triple to right center field to tie the game at 3-3.

After the Bees ended the tie in the fourth and added another run in the fifth to go up 5-3, the Aces broke out once again in the bottom of the fifth with five runs thanks to four hits, including a double by Oswaldo Arcia and Rivero's second home run in two games, his 100th round-tripper of his MiLB career, to bring the Aces ahead 8-5.

Reinheimer scored Reno's final run in the seventh after he led off with a triple to left field and was brought in on Kristopher Negron's first pitch single.

Salt Lake manufactured their final two runs in the eighth on one hit, a double by Ackley. The double scored one run and was Ackley was brought in two groundouts later to make it a 9-7 ball game.

Jokisch earned his first win after allowing five runs on nine hits with one strikeout recorded. Erik Davis followed with an inning in relief, allowing the two runs in the eighth. Jimmie Sherfy notched his first save of the season with one and one-third innings of work, allowing just one hit and striking out two.

The Aces hit the road for game one of a four-game series against the Sacramento River Cats tomorrow, May 6 at Raley Field. First pitch set for 7:05 p.m. The Aces return home Thursday, May 11 for an eight-game homestand against the New Orleans Baby Cakes and Round Round Express.
