Reno Aces News Release

RENO, Nev.-Reno started off strong on Sunday night, but two big innings made the difference for the Las Vegas 51's, as the Aces fell 15-8 in the series finale at Aces Ballpark.

The Aces held a 6-1 lead entering the fifth, when Las Vegas struck with their first of two big innings. The 51's pushed across five runs in the frame, all charged to Reno starter Brandon McCarthy. McCarthy, in the first game of his Major League Rehabilitation Assignment from the D-backs, was charged with six runs-all earned-on nine hits through 4.1 innings.

Reno managed to gain a 7-6 advantage in the bottom of the frame, but Las Vegas answered with a nine-run sixth inning to take a commanding 15-7 lead. Relievers Garrett Mock and Bryan Woodall allowed a combined seven hits and three walks in the inning before the damage was over.

Chase Anderson was stellar in his first outing off the disabled list, and first out of the bullpen this season, striking out two in a shutout eighth frame.

A night after recording 12 hits-all singles-Aces batters combined for 16 hits in the game, including three doubles, two triples, and a home run. Each position player in Reno's lineup recorded at least one hit, with six multi-hit performances. Tyler Bortnick and Matt Davidson each drove in three runs apiece.

With the loss, Reno has lost each of the first three series of the season to Las Vegas. The club has also lost the season series to the 51's for the first time in franchise history.

Tomorrow, the Aces will travel to Las Vegas for a four-game road series against the 51's. RHP Zeke Spruill (3-3, 3.94 ERA) will be reinstated from Reno's disabled list to make the start, while the 51's will counter with RHP Giancarlo Alvarado (3-0, 0.89 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PT at Cashman Field, and all of the action can be heard live on KPLY 630 AM.

Reno returns home Friday for a four-game series against the Tacoma Rainiers. Tickets are available for the upcoming series, and all Aces home games, at RenoAces.com, by calling (775) 334-7000 or by visiting the Aces Ballpark Ticket Office.
