Oklahoma City Baseball Club News Release

Reno, Nev. - Peter O'Brien and Carlos Rivero both hit two home runs as part of a five home run night, leading the Reno Aces to an 8-3 win over the Oklahoma City Dodgers Saturday at Greater Nevada Field.

The five homers marked a season high for the Aces (48-45), who totaled 15 hits, including 10 for extra bases. It also marked the first time Oklahoma City (53-39) allowed as many as five home runs in a game since July 7, 2012, when the RedHawks surrendered seven home runs in New Orleans.

The Aces looked like they would seize control in the first inning, loading the bases with none out. However, Ross Stripling was able to pull off an escape act, getting out of the inning without any runs scoring. O'Brien grounded back to Stripling, who threw home to get the force out. Stripling then struck out Kyle Jensen and Ed Lucas to end the threat.

But it wouldn't be long before the Aces scored. Rivero led off the second inning with a solo homer to left-center field, giving Reno a 1-0 lead.

The Dodgers caught a big break in the top of third inning and took a 2-1 advantage as a result. With two outs, Corey Brown swung and missed for strike three, but pitch got away from catcher Dan Rohlfing, allowing Brown to reach base on the wild pitch. Austin Barnes followed with a RBI single to score Rob Segedin and tie the game. Two batters later, Jack Murphy singled to right field. Brown scored on the play, but Barnes was thrown out by Mitch Haniger at the plate to end the inning.

Reno quickly regained the lead in the bottom of the inning. Chris Owings led off with a triple, and Haniger tied the game with a RBI single. O'Brien came up next and socked a two-run homer to put the Aces in front, 4-2.

O'Brien sent another tape-measure shot out to center field during his next at-bat in the fifth inning. The solo blast went just to the left of the batter's eye, as O'Brien hit his 20th homer of the season and collected his third multi-homer game of 2016.

The Dodgers got back within two runs in the seventh inning, courtesy of a two-out RBI single by Will Venable. Venable collected two more hits Saturday night and is now 5-for-8 through his first three games with OKC.

The Aces got the run right back in their next at-bat on another home run, and this time it was a solo homer by Haniger that pushed the lead to 6-3.

Rivero connected on his second home run with one out in the eighth inning. Later in the frame Zach Borenstein added a RBI single for the game's final run.

The Dodgers offense collected nine hits, but just one went for extra bases. Barnes, Venable, and Joc Pederson each had multi-hit games. Micah Johnson went 0-for-5 to snap a season-best 12-game hitting streak.

In the second game of his rehab assignment, Pederson went 2-for-2 with two walks. He's now reached base safely in each of his last seven plate appearances.

Reno starting pitcher Matt Buschmann had runners on base against him all night long, but he ultimately limited the Dodgers to two runs over 5.2 innings to earn the win. Buschmann (6-6) gave up seven hits, with four walks and four strikeouts.

Four of the five Dodgers pitchers who appeared Saturday allowed at least one home run. Stripling (0-2) took the loss after allowing four runs and seven hits over four innings. He struck out six with no walks.

The eight runs were the most allowed in a road game by the Dodgers since an 8-1 defeat in Fresno on May 25. It was also their largest margin of defeat in a road game since that same contest in Fresno.

The Dodgers finish their series in Reno Sunday evening looking to split the four-game set. First pitch is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. Central time. Live coverage begins 15 minutes before the scheduled first pitch on AM 1340 "The Game," 1340thegame.com, or through the free iHeartRadio mobile app.
