Aces Blanked by River Cats, 6-0
April 22, 2012 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1) - Reno Aces News Release
RENO, Nev. - A pair of singles was all the Aces offense could generate Saturday night, as Reno dropped a 6-0 decision to the Sacramento River Cats in the series opener at Aces Ballpark.
Lead-off singles by Taylor Harbin in the third and Randy Ruiz in the fourth were the extent of the Aces' offense on Saturday, as the club was shutout for the first time this season.
Sacramento jumped on the board with runs in the first and second innings and never looked back. The River Cats added a solo home run in the sixth by Brandon Hicks and another in the seventh off the bat of Stephen Parker.
Aces starter Chris Jakubauskas (1-3) was pinned with the loss after surrendering five runs on 10 hits over 5.2 innings of work. After Jakubauskas' exit, Jason Lane held Sacramento to just a run with four strikeouts and no walks over the game's final 3.1 frames.
The win went to River Cats reliever Erick Threets (3-0), who dealt 2.0 perfect frames. Sacramento starter Jarrod Parker worked 2.2 scoreless innings before being lifted in the third.
The series continues with a Sunday matinee at Aces Ballpark. RHP Joe Martinez (0-1, 4.42 ERA) toes the slab for Reno, while RHP Bruce Billings (0-0, 3.00 ERA) counters for Sacramento. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. PT, and the game will be highlighted by another Renown Children's Hospital Family Funday, Earth Day, presented by Schnitzer Steel and the club's first Glove Drive of the season, benefitting Reno and Carson City Challengers.
