Aces Announce Several Moves to Roster

Anchorage, AK; October 22, 2010 - The Alaska Aces signed a pair of rookie forwards, completing a big week of changes to the roster, Head Coach Brent Thompson announced on Friday. The new forwards to Alaska are Zach Harrison and Justin Milo. The additions come along with the re-assignment of goaltender Adam Courchaine, earlier in the week, as well as the activation of Steve Ward from the team suspension list. The Aces also placed multiple players on the injured reserve list to complete the changes. The Aces host the defending National Conference Champion, Idaho Steelheads on Friday and Saturday night at 7:15pm at the Sullivan Arena. Harrison, 22, joins the Aces for his professional debut after closing a four-year college career last season at the University of Minnesota-Mankato. In his four seasons, Harrison had 70 points (26g, 44a) in 152 games. The 5'11", 180 lbs. Flint, MI native was college teammates with current Aces rookie, Jerad Stewart. Last year as a senior, Harrison finished the season with career highs of 16 assists and 24 points, and finished the season, just two points off the team lead, and one behind Stewart. Prior to coming to Anchorage, Harrison took training camp with the Elmira Jackals, but did not appear in a regular season game, and will make his pro debut this weekend with the Aces.

Milo, 23, will also be making his professional debut with Alaska. He spent training camp with the Gwinnett Gladiators, and enters the pro ranks after an amateur career of junior and collegiate hockey. Originally from Edina, MN, the 5'8", 180 lbs. Milo played for three teams in the USHL, and then began the college portion of his career. After one season with Cornell, Milo made a big impact at the University of Vermont the last two seasons. In 59 combined games, he had 47 points (21g, 26a). Last season, he led the team in points per game, totaling 21 points (9g, 12a) in just 20 games.

Courchaine, 21, is a rookie netminder with five games of pro experience on his resume prior to joining Alaska. He was assigned to the Aces earlier this week by the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League. Four of Courchaine's five games have come in the AHL, where he went a combined 2-1 with a 2.06 GAA and 915 save percentage with the Bruins. Last weekend he made his ECHL debut with the Reading Royals, and did not figure into the decision in a 6-4 loss to Trenton. For the last three seasons, he's played primarily in the Ontario Hockey League, and last year, combined with the Erie Otters and Sarnia Sting, finishing the year with a 20-24-2 record.

Along with the new additions, the Aces announced that earlier this week they waived goaltender Travis Yonkman, and placed forwards T.J. Battani and Maxime Tanguay on the 21-day IR. They also added goaltender Alex Petizian to the 7-day IR, and forward Pierce Norton to the 3-day IR. The club also activated defenseman Steve Ward, who is expected to make his Alaska debut this weekend.
