Chicago Steel News Release

GENEVA, ILLINOIS - Chicago Steel defenseman Wyatt Aamodt has announced his commitment to be a Division I student-athlete at Minnesota State University, Mankato. Aamodt's verbal agreement makes 21 out of 23 players on the current Steel roster currently committed to NCAA Division I schools.

Aamodt (pronounced "AH-miht") is currently ranked second amongst USHL defensemen with 11 assists through 15 games played this season. The Hermantown, Minn., native is the fourth player to commit to the Minnesota State Mavericks (WCHA), along with forwards Walker Duehr, Jake Jaremko and Reggie Lutz.

"We are thrilled that Wyatt has earned this opportunity," said Steel Head Coach Dan Muse. "Going back to when he joined us last season, he has consistently shown a very strong compete level, high character, and a team-first attitude. He comes to the rink ready to work every day and has been a fantastic representative of the Chicago Steel both on and off the ice. We are thrilled for him."

The 5-foot-11, 206-pound blueliner captained Hermantown to a Minnesota High School State 1A Championship earlier this year and was named Duluth News Tribune 2016 All-Area Player of the Year. He won the Reed Larson Award as Minnesota's top senior defenseman, was a finalist for Minnesota Mr. Hockey and was selected to the Associated Press All-State First Team. Following his high school career, Aamodt joined the Steel, making his USHL debut on March 11.

The Steel head to Wisconsin this weekend for games Friday, Nov. 18 at Madison, and Saturday, Nov. 19 at Green Bay. The road trip then wraps up on Wednesday, Nov. 23 at Cedar Rapids. Chicago returns home to Fox Valley Ice Arena for two games Thanksgiving weekend - Friday, Nov. 25 vs. Lincoln, and Saturday, Nov. 26 vs. Dubuque. The Nov. 25 game is a Steel Family Pack game, and the following night features a full-team post-game autograph session.
