Portland Sea Dogs News Release
(Portland, ME) - The Erie SeaWolves (36-28) scored 10 runs over two innings (5 and 6) to grab game 2 of the series from the Portland Sea
Dogs (32-32) 11-5 on Wednesday night at Hadlock Field. Erie sent 12
men to the plate in the sixth inning, scoring 7 times (all with
2-outs) off LHP Andrew Dobies and RHP Richie Lentz.
RF Deik Scram (2-for-4, 3 RBI) and DH Andy Dirks (2-for-4, 3 RBI) each drove in three runs for the visitors. CF Casper Wells (2-for-5, 2
RBI) and 1B Ryan Strieby (2-for-4, 2 RBI, 2 2B) drove in two runs apiece. 3B Jorge Jimenez (1-for-4, HR, 2 RBI) blasted his 6th homer of the season for the Sea Dogs and his 2nd in the series. CF Josh Reddick (3-for-5, RBI) and LF Ryan Kalish (3-for-4) each had three hits for Portland.
RHP Luis Marte (5-6) worked six strong innings on seven hits, three runs and fanned eight to earn the win for Erie. RHP Jarod Plummer (5-3), who beat Marte last week, suffered the loss for Portland.
Plummer gave up four runs (two earned) on three hits in 4+ innings.
The Sea Dogs carried a 2-1 lead into the fifth inning on Reddick's run-scoring single and a sac-fly by C Mark Wagner (0-for-2, 2 RBI) but Erie scored three runs (one earned) off Plummer in the fifth. The inning started with a walk, an error and a hit batter. Dirks tied the game with a single and knocked Plummer out of the game. Dobies induced a run-scoring double play from LF Max Leon and a broken bat RBI single to Scram.
In the sixth, Dirks' 2-run single chased Dobies out of the game but that was followed by five consecutive batters reaching base off Lentz.
The righty walked three (one with the bases-loaded), allowed a 2-run single to Wells and a 2-run double to Strieby.
RHP Chad Rhoades retired all seven batters faced and RHP T.J. Large worked a scoreless ninth for the Dogs in relief. The Portland pitchers combined for 11 strikeouts but issued six walks.
The Dogs and Wolves conclude their 3-game series on Thursday night beginning at 6:00 PM from Hadlock Field. LHP Kason Gabbard returns to Portland and makes his first start in the Red Sox system since 2007.
RHP Pat Stanley (0-2, 5.91) makes his 4th start of the season for Erie. Catch all the action on the U.S. Cellular Sea Dogs Radio Network beginning at 5:35 PM with the CorrectDeck Pre-Game Show.
Notes...Wagner tied a franchise record with two sacrifice flies...Jimenez has smacked his last three homers against Erie...The Sea Dogs winning streak at home was snapped a three - they have not won 4 in a row at Hadlock Field this season...Rhoades has not allowed a run in four consecutive outings...Khoury's walk in the third inning was his team-leading 37th of the season but just his second of the month.
