 Midland RockHounds

A Beautiful Homecoming

August 28, 2016 - Texas League (TL1)
Midland RockHounds News Release

RockHounds designated hitter Beau Taylor went 3-for-4 with four RBI - including the go-ahead, three-run home run in the fifth inning - in Saturday night's 5-3 win over the Frisco RoughRiders at Security Bank Ballpark. (Forrest Allen) Saturday night's game, the opener of the final homestand of the regular season, was also the final fireworks night of the year. Through the first four innings, it seemed the pyrotechnics might be the only "show" of the night. That all changed in a four-run fifth inning, one in which the RockHounds scored four runs, the last three on home run into the right field bullpen off the bat of Beau Taylor.

The RoughRiders put three runs on the board in a "less than pretty" (for the home crowd, anyway) second inning, with Frisco's three hits (one of them an infield single) compounded by a pair of 'Hounds errors. Luis Marte singled on a chopper right at the third base bag and stole second to open the inning. Yairo Munoz's throwing error with one out put a second runner on and Darin Mastroianni singled to left to load the bases. Kellin Deglan's grounder to first with the infield drawn in should have resulted in an out at the plate, but Viosergy Rosa's throw went wide and the first of three (unearned) runs scored. A bases-loaded walk to Andy Ibanez and a single by Isiah Kiner-Falefa plated the other two runs.

When the 'Hounds came to the plate in the last of the fifth, they were not only trailing, 3-0, but had yet to collect a hit against RoughRiders left-hander Jack Snodgrass. A leadoff single from J.P. Sportman under the glove of Marte at shortstop was followed by Joe Bennie's single to left. A one-out opposite field double off the bat of Franklin Barreto got the RockHounds on the board (3-1) and Taylor followed with a drive into the 'Hounds bullpen in right for a 4-3 lead.

Taylor, who has been sidelined for three games with a bruised left thumb (he was the designated hitter Saturday), added his fourth RBI of the night in the seventh, driving in Barreto, who had launched his second double to right-center in as many at bats.

Joel Seddon went six innings (no earned runs) for the win, backed by two perfect innings from Sam Bragg (see "Stat of the Day," below) and Kyle Finnegan's fifth save of the season. The RockHounds also got some good news from the "Scoreboard" in Corpus Christi (see below).
