Firebirds Host Erie Otters for Ladies Night at 7PM

Saturday marks the first-of-four games between Flint and Erie this season and first-of-two on home-ice in Flint. The Otters come to Flint with a 1-7-1-1 record on the road while the Firebirds are 5-5-1-0 in Flint. All-time, the Firebirds are 2-3-1-2 against Erie and are 1-2-1-0 in Flint. Last season, two of the four games between the two clubs went to overtime, with one contest requiring a shootout before it was settled.

In the last three games between Flint and Erie, the winning team scored exactly five goals.

Also, in the 68-game OHL regular season, Erie has recorded at least 50 wins in their past four-consecutive seasons. The Otters' are recently most known for producing forward Connor McDavid. McDavid was selected as the first-overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft by the Edmonton Oilers. He played for Erie from 2012-15 and is currently on the cover of the EA Sports NHL 18 video game for PlayStation and Xbox. In 82 NHL games last season, McDavid recorded 100 points (30G, 70A) for Edmonton. McDavid could be playing for Erie as an overager this season. In regards to talent in the OHL, 26.4% of all players on NHL opening day rosters are alumni of the OHL, which is more than any other league in the world.

On special teams, Flint is converting at 15.1% on the power-play while Erie is at 17.4%. After successfully killing all five penalties Wednesday against the OHL's third-best power-play ran by the Sarnia Sting, Flint's penalty-kill is 70.8% while Erie is 75%.

Players to Watch

Flint Firebirds (7-11-2-0, 5th West Division):

Nick Caamano leads the Firebirds in points this season with 19 in 20 games. He has scored 11 goals, including his first-career OHL hat-trick this past Wednesday, and has added nine assists. Ryan Moore is second on the team with 19 points in just 18 games. He has six goals and 13 helpers. Maurizio Colella sits third in points with 18. Colella has recorded eight goals and 10 assists in 20 games played this season.

In net, Garrett Forrest enters the contest with a 4.50 goals against average. He has a save percentage of .869%. Forrest has appeared in 18 games, tied for the third-most among goaltenders in the OHL this season. Luke Cavallin has a 5.73 GAA and a .844 SAV% in 4 games played this season.

NHL: The Firebirds have three players that have been drafted by NHL teams consisting of Nick Caamano (Dallas Stars), Fedor Gordeev (Toronto Maple Leafs) and Nicholas Mattinen (Toronto Maple Leafs). Additionally, Dennis Busby, Ty Dellandrea, Hunter Holmes, Ryan Littlejohn and Jack Wismer are five first time eligible players to be selected in the NHL Entry Draft in June 2018. Busby, Dellandrea, Holmes and Wismer were listed among NHL Central Scouting's November 'Players to Watch' list for the upcoming 2018 NHL Draft.

Erie Otters (8-10-2-1, 5th Midwest Division):

The Otters are led by Taylor Raddysh who has 29 points on the season. He has scored 9 goals and is averaging an assist per game, with 20 helpers in 20 games. Kyle Maksimovich is second on the Erie squad with 28 points in 21 games played. He has scored 11 times and assisted on 17 tallies. Third on the team is Ivan Lodnia with 12 goals and 10 helpers in 20 games played.

In goal, the Otters have used both of their netminders almost equally. In 14 appearances, Troy Timpano leads the team with an .873% SAV% and a GAA of 3.47. Goaltender Anand Oberoi has posted a 4.57 GAA and a SAV% of .851% in 10 games played this far.

NHL: Erie has 3 players with NHL ties as well, including Taylor Raddysh (Tampa Bay Lightning), Ivan Ladnia (Minnesota Wild), and Jordan Sambrook (Detroit Red Wings). Forward Maxim Golod of the Otters was also listed among NHL Central Scouting's November 'Players to Watch' list for the 2018 NHL Draft in June.

10 notable Otters of their 38 alumni that played in the NHL are Brad Boyes, Chris Campoli, Carlo Colaiacovo, Alex DeBrincat, Connor McDavid, Ryan O'Reilly, Nick Palmieri, Michael Rupp, Dylan Strome, and Jason Ward.

Saturday evening's contest against the Erie Otters can be heard live on the radio throughout Flint & Mid-Michigan on US 103.1 FM, online at www.us103.com or by downloading the US 103 app here. Dominic Hennig will call the play-by-play action on the Flint Firebirds Hockey Radio Network. Pregame coverage will begin 30 minutes prior to puck drop at 6:30 p.m.

Saturday's game against the Otters will also be televised live province-wide throughout Ontario on the OHL Action Pak on channel 453 for Rogers TV cable subscribers and channel 472 for Cogeco TV cable subscribers.
