Wheeling's Meurs named Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week
PRINCETON, N.J. - Garrett Meurs of the Wheeling Nailers is the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for Oct. 13-15. It is the second time in his career that he has received the weekly honor.
Meurs scored four goals and added two assists helping the Nailers sweep an opening weekend series at Greenville.
The 24-year-old scored a pair of goals in Wheeling's 5-4 on Friday and then added four points (2g-2a), including the game-winning goal in overtime, in a 7-6 victory on Saturday.
A native of Ripley, Ontario, Meurs has posted 118 points (59g-59a) in 154 career ECHL games with Wheeling and Fort Wayne while adding 14 points (6g-8a) in 88 career American Hockey League games with Lake Erie, San Antonio and Milwaukee.
Selected by the Colorado Avalanche in the fifth round (123rd overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Meurs recorded 192 points (78g-114a) in 265 career games with Plymouth of the Ontario Hockey League from 2009-13.
On behalf of Garrett Meurs, a case of pucks will be donated to a Wheeling youth hockey organization by Sher-Wood Hockey, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, Sher-Wood Hockey has donated more than 37,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.
