Providence Bruins News Release

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins concluded their first homestand of the season this weekend, splitting their pair of games at the Dunk. Facing off Friday against Springfield on "Pink in the Rink" night, the P-Bruins defeated the Thunderbirds 3-2 for their second win in as many tries against them this season. Peter Cehlarik and Kenny Agostino each posted a goal and two assists on their way to being named the top two stars of the game. Looking to start the season with three straight wins, the Bruins faced off against Toronto Saturday night. Despite goals from Agostino and Tommy Cross, the Marlies handed Providence their first loss of the year 3-2.

Providence sits at 2-1-0-0 in the young season with production from their top line carrying the club so far. The trio of Agostino, Cehlarik and Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson have been one of, if not the top lines in all of the AHL through three games. Combined, they have six goals and 16 points with a +11 rating and are the top three scorers on the team. Agostino, the reigning AHL MVP, was named CCM/AHL Player of the week for his efforts and now has two goals and five assists for seven points and a +4 rating this season.

In net, Zane McIntyre made both starts for the P-Bruins and now has a 2.35 GAA and 91.4% save percentage. He continues to be spectacular after an All-Star season a year ago and hasn't allowed more than one goal in any period so far this season. He has also been a major factor on special teams, as despite being shorthanded at least six times a game the P-Bruins are tied for third in the conference with a penalty kill percentage of 90%. Their power play has been equally as effective too, as they are fourth in the conference with a 27.3% success rate and one goal on the man advantage in each game.

The first of many three-in-three weekends begin for Providence Friday when they hit the road for the first time this season for a 7:05pm faceoff with Springfield. The team returns home Saturday for a 7:05pm matchup with Belleville and will conclude their weekend Sunday at 3:05pm when they welcome the Laval Rocket to the Dunk for the first time in franchise history.
