Vermont Lake Monsters News Release

LOWELL, MA -- Anthony Churlin went 4-for-5 with four runs scored, two-run triple and two-run homer to lead the Vermont Lake Monsters to a 15-2 victory over the Lowell Spinners in New York-Penn League action Wednesday night at LeLecheur Park.

Churlin started his night with the two-run triple and scored on a sacrifice fly in Vermont's four-run top of the first inning. He added the two-run homer to left in the third inning, then singled and later scored in both the fifth and seventh innings. The 20-year-old then struckout in eighth and flied out in ninth, ending his chance for a five-hit night.

A 16th-round pick in the 2016 draft, Churlin is the 10th player in Lake Monsters history to score four runs in game and the first since August 22, 2000 when Jose Docen and Eric Miller both scored four times in a Vermont 19-12 win over Mahoning Valley.

After allowing four runs in an inning twice to the Spinners on Tuesday in Lowell's 12-5 win, the Lake Monsters turned the tables on Wednesday with a pair of four-run innings in the first and seventh, while also scoring three runs in the fifth on an Aaron Arruda three-run homer (his fourth of the year) and two runs in the ninth on a Jesus Lage two-run blast (his first home run of season).

The 15 runs are the most scored by the Lake Monsters since 15 runs at Tri-City on September 8 2005, while Vermont's first three-homer game since September 2, 2012 vs. Tri-City and first on the road since July 1, 2010 at Lowell.

Lage was 2-for-6 with one run and four RBI on his two-run double and two-run homer, while Greg Deichmann 1-for-3 with two walks and three runs scored. Arruda and Ryan Gridley both added two hits as the Lake Monsters reached a season-high 14-hit plateau for the fifth time this season.

Vermont tarter Jesus Luzardo allowed one run on two hits with three walks and two strikeouts over four innings, while Wyatt Marks (3-0) one run on three hits with a walk and four strikeouts over three innings to earn the win. Spinners starter Yorvin Pantoja (0-7) allowed six runs (four earned) on four hits and three walks in 2 2/3 innings to take the loss, while Raiwinson Lameda was 3-for-4 with two RBI for Lowell (27-32).

Coupled with a Tri-City loss at Connecticut Wednesday, Vermont (34-27) now leads the Stedler Division by 3.5 games over the ValleyCats with just 15 games remaining in the regular-season The Lake Monsters wrap up the three-game series at Lowell 6:35 pm on Thursday before starting a three-game homestand Friday vs. Aberdeen.
