STOKES SMASHES GO-AHEAD HOMER IN 10TH TO COMPLETE ANOTHER SHUCKERS COMEBACK

Shuckers win third straight and improve to 10-3 in August and remain a 1/2 game back in division

JACKSON, TN - The Biloxi Shuckers played yet another extra-inning game on Thursday night in Jackson, completing their second straight comeback with a 4-2, 10-inning victory. Troy Stokes Jr.'s solo home run in the top of the 10th gave the Shuckers their third straight win. The Shuckers improved to a league-best 10-3 in August and can win their fourth straight series with a win on Friday.

The club improved to 12-9 in extra-inning games with their second 10-inning win against the Generals in as many nights. With 18 games remaining in the regular season, the Shuckers keep pace with Jacksonville and take sole possession of second place in the South Division, just a 1/2 game behind the first-place Jumbo Shrimp.

Aaron Wilkerson turned in his eighth quality start for the Shuckers. The Cumberland Univ. (TN) product allowed two runs on five hits in 6.0 innings, keeping his season ERA where it began the night at 3.04.

Biloxi took the first lead, but couldn't do much else in the early innings. After a Dustin DeMuth walk and Jake Gatewood double to start the second, Blake Allemand hit a grounder to first that scored DeMuth for a 1-0 Shuckers lead. Gatewood would finish with his second consecutive multi-hit game and run his hitting streak to five games. Jackson starter Brad Keller would pitch hitless ball for the rest of his outing, striking out five over 6.0 innings to put himself in position for the win.

Jackson took the lead in the fourth inning, starting the frame with Kevin Cron's 23rd home run of the season. Michael Perez followed with a single, and Marty Herum advanced him to third base with a one-out double. Daniel Lockhart lifted a high fly ball to center field that was deep enough to bring in Perez for the go-ahead run.

Quintin Torres-Costa and Travis Hissong pitched two innings of scoreless relief for the Shuckers, allowing their offense to get back in the game. DeMuth and Gatewood singled against Keegan Long to start the ninth inning, and Angel Ortega delivered a one-out RBI single to tie the game 2-2.

Jorge Lopez (W, 7-7) pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning to send the game to extras, and Stokes launched a long home run to left field in the top of the tenth off J.R. Bradley (L, 0-1) to give the Shuckers a 3-2 lead. Allemand laced an RBI single later in the frame for a big insurance run, and Lopez came back out for the bottom half of the inning to close out the comeback victory.

The Shuckers will try to make it four wins in a row on Friday night as Freddy Peralta faces off against Frank Duncan at 6:05. Live coverage begins at 5:45 pm on Cruisin' WGCM AM-1240/FM-100.9 and the Shuckers Radio Network. The game will also be available at biloxishuckers.com, MiLB.TV and TuneIn Radio.

The Shuckers return to MGM Park for a 10-game homestand beginning Monday, Aug. 21, against division rivals, Mobile BayBears and Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp.
