ERIE, Pa.---The Bowie Baysox edged Erie 5-3 in game one of the doubleheader at UPMC Park on Sunday.
For the second straight game, Bowie got on the board first with a two-RBI single from Adrian Marin off of Tyler Alexander in the second inning.
Erie cut the lead in half in the bottom of the third with an RBI groundout from Mike Gerber that scored Harold Castro off of Bowie starter John Means.
In the top of the fourth, D.J. Stewart led the inning off with a double. Immediately after, Audry Perez smoked a two run home to left to make it 4-1 Baysox.
Once again, Erie wasted no time to answer in the home half of the fourth inning.Christin Stewart absolutely destroyed his 17th home run of the season into right field to make it 4-2 going into the fifth inning.
The recent call-up Austin Hays hit a leadoff home run on Tyler Alexander in the fifth inning to extend the lead to 5-2, giving Bowie their final run of the game.
Christin Stewart stayed hot in the sixth when he blasted his 18th home run of the year into centerfield for his third multi-home run game of the season. The Baysox held off Erie though, as they evened the series with a 5-3 win.
Tyler Alexander (3-6) was handed the loss after pitching a complete game for Erie. He allowed five earned on eight hits but fanned a season high eight batters in the loss.
LHP John Means (4-7) earned the win for the Baysox, while Tim Berry picked up his fourth save on the year.
