ROUND ROCK, TX - The Iowa Cubs (32-43) put up a five-run seventh inning to sink the Round Rock Express (36-39) 10-5, Saturday at Dell Diamond. Stephen Bruno capped the seventh-inning outburst with a three-run home run, his fifth of the season. Iowa took the early lead with a run in the first, taking advantage of a one-out walk to Jemile Weeks. The I-Cubs extended their lead to 2-0 in the second, before Round Rock hurdled ahead with a three-run blast from Ronald Guzman in the bottom of the frame.
The I-Cubs were held to one hit from Jacob Hannemann in innings three through five, before getting going again in the sixth. With two down, Chesny Young, Chris Dominguez, Bruno and John Andreoli roped consecutive singles to plate a pair and cut the deficit to 5-4.
Weeks and Jeimer Candelario jump started Iowa's seventh-inning rally with back-to-back doubles to tie the game. Victor Caratini brought in the go-ahead run on a single and Young put two on with a single of his own. With two outs in the inning, Bruno drilled a 1-1 pitch from Wesley Wright over the wall in left to add to the I-Cubs' lead. Iowa posted an unearned run in the ninth to solidify the final score.
Six I-Cubs notched multi-hit games as Iowa outhit Round Rock 14-10. Andury Acevedo (2-0) claimed the victory after allowing one run over two frames. The I-Cubs and Express wrap up the series at 1:05 p.m. tomorrow at Dell Diamond. Iowa returns to Principal Park on Monday, June 26 for eight games.
