Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Iowa Cubs (32-43) pounced for five runs in the top of the seventh inning to ultimately claim a 10-5 win over the Round Rock Express (36-39) on Saturday night at Dell Diamond. 1B Ronald Guzman homered for the second night in a row in the loss.

Express reliever LHP Wesley Wright (3-1, 5.11) suffered his first loss of the year after giving up all five runs on a total of five hits in the seventh inning. Cubs reliever RHP Andury Acevedo (2-0, 5.63) picked up the win despite allowing a run on two hits in two innings of relief.

For the second night in a row, neither starter picked up a decision. Round Rock RHP Clayton Blackburn held Iowa to just two runs on three hits in five solid innings while Cubs RHP Casey Kelly served up four runs on seven hits in just three innings.

The visitors jumped out to a 2-0 lead after scoring in each of the first two frames. Blackburn walked 2B Jemile Weeks, 3B Jeimer Candelario and RF Bijan Rademacher in consecutive order with one out in the top of the first inning. C Victor Caratini then sent a sacrifice fly to deep left field, allowing Weeks to tag and score from third.

In the second, LF John Andreoli collected a two-out single before promptly stealing second base. A Jacob Hannemann single in the next at-bat doubled his team's lead to 2-0.

However, Round Rock jumped ahead with one swing of the bat in the bottom of the frame. 3B Will Middlebrooks manufactured a leadoff walk before LF Ryan Rua singled. Guzman then stepped to the plate and launched a three-run homer that sent the Cubs relievers in the bullpen scrambling for cover. After a Rua triple in the third inning, Guzman grounded out to first base, allowing the speedy outfielder to score from third.

Rua opened the fifth with a single before moving around the bases on a balk and a passed ball. Following a Guzman single, RF Preston Beck grounded out, leaving Rua enough time to race home with the fifth E-Train run of the night.

The I-Cubs began their comeback in the sixth inning. After recording a pair of quick outs, RHP Jaye Chapman surrendered four straight singles to SS Chesny Young, 1B Chris Dominguez, DH Stephen Bruno and Andreoli, the latest of which drove in a pair of runs.

In the fateful seventh inning, Weeks singled before Candelario followed up with an RBI double that tied the game. Caratini then gave the Cubs the lead with an RBI single. After a Young single, Bruno stepped to the plate and blasted a three-run homer to left field, extending Iowa's lead to 9-5.

The I-Cubs tacked on one final run in the ninth inning. LHP Adam Loewen issued a leadoff walk to Caratini before committing a throwing error that allowed Young to reach first while Caratini advanced to third. An ensuing wild pitch sent Caratini racing to the plate to extend the final score to 10-5.

The two teams close out their four-game series on Sunday afternoon. Round Rock RHP Tyler Wagner (1-6, 8.18) is set to start against Iowa RHP Seth Frankoff (1-4, 3.07). First pitch at Dell Diamond is set for 1:05 p.m.
