Selman's Stellar Night Leads Rox Past Border Cats

St. Cloud Rox News Release

Thunder Bay, ON -- Shane Selman (McNeese State) is a man on a mission. He is proving to everyone in the Northwoods League why he has garnered so many accolades this spring. The Southland Conference Hitter of the Year and All-Conference 1st Team Member impressed once again Friday night to lead the North Division leading Rox to a 8-2 win over the Border Cats. St. Cloud has now won 5 in a row and 7 of its last 8.

Selman finished nearly perfect with 4 hits in 5 plate appearances, and was a double shy of hitting for the cycle. The Rightfielder started the scoring in the 1st once again. He drove in Daniel Schneemann (BYU) with an RBI single, and then later in the 4th he led-off with a solo home run, his 2nd this season. The sophomore has at least one hit in 11 of the last 12 games, and 6 straight following tonight's stellar outing.

Adding to the offense tonight (to little surprise at this point) was Matt Tarantino (Pacific). The Junior extended his hitting streak to 11 after going 2-5 with 2 runs batted in. In that hitting streak, Tarantino has 8 multi-hit games and has shown no signs of slowing down.

Drew Avans (SE Louisiana) and Keaton Kringlen (BYU) were the other two players to register two or more hits. Avans, after closing out yesterday's win at Willmar, tallied 3 hits and 2 runs scored in just another day at the ballpark for St. Cloud's leadoff hitter. Kringlen had a pair of hits, including an RBI single in the 5th inning.

The Rox may have pulled away in this way, but it should not diminish the day Aaron Rozek (Minnesota State-Mankato) had on the mound. The righty became the 1st starter this season for STC to finish 8 complete innings, and in that span he was fantastic. He only allowed 3 hits and 1 earned run. What is even more impressive is that Rozek didn't even allow a hit after the 4th inning.

The offense though was dominant for another Rox win. For the 3rd time this week, St. Cloud tied a season-high 14 hits in a single game matching the same number in Bismarck on Monday and Tuesday. The best part too is everyone contributed in the lineup. All 9 starters reached base safely and 7 of those had a hit.

Joe Calamita (Bethune-Cookman) downed Thunder Bay in order in the 9th and that was that.

The Rox rolled to their 18th win and now look for their third straight series sweep tomorrow night. First pitch is set for 5:05 PM (CT) with Kenny Saenz (BYU) on the mound for St. Cloud. Then it's a trip to Rochester Sunday to wrap up the 4 game stretch away from Faber Field.
