Bats Not Enough Power, IronPigs Win 9-4

LEHIGH VALLEY, PA- The Louisville Bats (16-30) lose to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (32-15), 9-4 and lose game one of this four-game series. The Bats scored first on the second inning when Brandon Dixon hits a sacrifice fly to score Tony Renda, giving the Bats an early 1-0 lead. The IronPigs started right-handed pitcher Tom Eshelman (2-0, 1.82). Eshelman pitched six and two thirds innings, allowed seven hits, gave up four runs, all earned, and recorded six strikeouts on 93 pitches, 64 for strikes. The Bats started right-handed pitcher Jackson Stephens (3-3, 5.79.) Stephens pitched six innings, allowed six hits, gave up four runs, all earned, gave up two walks, one home run, and recorded seven strikeouts while throwing 107 pitches, 66 of them being strikes. The IronPigs had eight come to the plate in the bottom of the fourth inning and managed to score two runs after an Elizalde's error at first allowing J.P. Crawford to score and a single by Nick Williams, scoring Howie Kendrick, Iron Pigs The Bats rallied back in the top half of the sixth inning when they brought seven to the plate. Stephens singled and later scored off of a Phillip Ervin single. Jesse Winker then doubled and scored Ervin, and then Tony Renda doubled and scored Winker. Bats lead 4-2. The IronPigs tied the game back up in the bottom half of the sixth inning when Nick Williams hits a two-run home run, tying the game up at 4-4. The IronPigs break a 4-4 tie in the bottom of the eighth when Taylor Featherston hits a three-run home run. Two batters later, Hector Gomez hits a two-run home run giving the IronPigs a 9-4 lead. The Louisville Bats will be back in action tomorrow when they face the Lehigh Valley Ironpigs in game two of this four game series. The Bats starter is to be determined for tomorrow and the IronPigs plan to start Ben Lively (5-1, 2.79). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM ET at Coca-Cola Park.
