5.26.17 Triple-A All-Star Game Voting Begins Today

May 26, 2017 - International League (IL1)
Indianapolis Indians News Release

INDIANAPOLIS - Online voting for the Triple-A All-Star Game is officially open, with a handful of Indianapolis Indians players making strong cases to participate in the Midsummer Classic. Cheney Stadium, home of the Tacoma Rainiers (Wash.), will host the Triple-A Home Run Derby on Monday, July 10, followed by the All-Star Game itself on Wednesday, July 12.

In conjunction with the International League, 16 Indians have been named to the ballot. Players who have appeared for the Tribe this season but are currently in the big leagues are not eligible for the vote. Fans can vote an unlimited number of times up until the voting deadline through Friday, June 23. Votes can be placed on MiLB.com, ILBaseball.com, indyindians.com and through the MiLB First Pitch app.

Catcher - Elias Diaz

Diaz makes a strong case both at and behind the plate in his bid to be one of the IL's two All-Star catchers. His .287 average (31-for-108) ranks third among IL catchers, narrowly trailing Durham's backstop duo of Mike Marjama (.291) and Curt Casali (.290). Diaz's defense separates him from the Bulls' combo and Lehigh Valley's Jorge Alfaro, as he's thrown out 46 percent (13-of-28) of attempted basestealers.

First Base - Jason Rogers

Rogers has put together a nice start in his second go-round with Indianapolis, batting .282 (42-for-149) with five doubles, six home runs and 22 RBI. He ranks fifth in long balls and sixth in RBI among IL first basemen, but faces stiff competition at first base from Lehigh Valley's Rhys Hoskins and Toledo's Efren Navarro.

Second Base - Erich Weiss

Weiss hit just .154 (6-for-39) over 11 games during a slow month of April, but he's turned it on in May to the tune of a .309 average (17-for-55) with five extra-base hits and 10 RBI. Unfortunately for Weiss, he has two of the toughest All-Star competitors at his position - top overall prospect Yoan Moncada (Charlotte) and Gwinnett's table-setter, Ozzie Albies.

Third Base - Eric Wood

Like Weiss, Wood has found himself offensively in the month of May, racking up 10 of his 18 extra-base hits and 14 of his 20 RBI in the second month of his first Triple-A campaign. He has overcome the Triple-A growing pains of facing better pitching, working 12 total walks over his last 12 games after having 10 through his first 29 contests. As of today, Durham's Pat Leonard, Syracuse's Adrian Sanchez and Buffalo's Jason Leblebijian appear to be the front-runners for the IL at the hot corner.

Shortstop - Max Moroff

Moroff has displayed extraordinary power in 2017, belting a career-high 12 home runs, which is tied for second in the IL. His keen eye at the plate has resulted in a league-high 29 walks, and he's driven in 32 runs, the third-highest mark among his IL peers and cementing him as one of Indy's most consistent run producers. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre's Tyler Wade (.310/3/15, 12 stolen bases) is Moroff's stiffest competitor for the IL's starting shortstop position.

Outfielders - Christopher Bostick, Austin Meadows and Eury Perez

Bostick has started multiple games at second, third, left and right field this season, and it hasn't slowed his roll at the dish. The 24-year-old has raked during his first season in Pittsburgh's system, collecting a .335 average (52-for-155) with 13 doubles, two triples, four home runs, 17 RBI and four stolen bases. He ranks among IL leaders in batting (2nd), hits (T-2nd), doubles (3rd) and total bases (T-5th, 81). Meadows, one of the youngest players on the circuit at 22 years old, is rebounding from a .195 average and 20 strikeouts over 21 games in April. Through 21 starts in the month of May, Meadows has batted .284 (25-for-88) with seven doubles and 13 RBI. He has scored a team-high 29 runs, tied for fourth in the league.

Designated Hitter - Joey Terdoslavich

Consistent at-bats have benefited Terdoslavich in May - he's hitting .333 (18-for-54) as opposed to a .172 mark (5-for-29) in April. He has reached base safely in 17 of his last 19 games, elevating his on-base percentage from .167 to .354, the third-best mark for the Indians.

Starting Pitchers - Steven Brault, Tyler Eppler, Clay Holmes and Drew Hutchison

Brault, Eppler and Holmes all rank among IL leaders in ERA at third, fourth and 13th, respectively. Brault, the lone southpaw in the group, has limited IL opponents to a .207 average (37-for-179), the fourth-lowest among qualifying starters. Holmes' 10.23 SO/9.0 IP ratio and Eppler's 1.09 WHIP are good for fifth in the league.

Relief Pitchers - Pat Light, Dovydas Neverauskas and Edgar Santana

Santana has dominated IL opponents this season, limiting them to a .145 average against (12-for-83) while posting an absurd 0.36 ERA (1 ER in 25.1 IP). The 25-year-old hasn't allowed a run since April 11, and he's riding an active scoreless streak of 21.2 frames, the longest by a Tribe pitcher this season and longest of his career. Neverauskas made national headlines in April when he became the first born-and-raised Lithuanian to play in the majors.
