Crushers Defeat Grizzlies, 5-2

May 26, 2017 - Eastern Basketball Development League () News Release

SAUGET, IL - The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy, won their second straight against the Gateway Grizzlies, 5-2, on Thursday night. The Crushers (6-6) won their second series of the season while the Grizzlies (3-9) are yet to take a three-game set in 2017.

Once again, the Crushers plated a run in the first inning. Parker Norris opened the game with a single up the middle. After back-to-back flyouts, Connor Oliver connected for a single on a hit and run that sent Norris from first to third. Sean Hurley drew a walk in the next at bat, and the fourth ball bounced past catcher Lou Ianotti, bringing in Norris for the 1-0 lead.

Lake Erie tallied two more in the top of the third inning. Norris knocked his second leadoff single of the night, and Jordan Dean hit a moonshot over the wall in left to give the Crushers a 3-0 advantage.

The Crushers extended their lead again in the fifth. Norris led off with a walk, moving from first to third on Cody Lenahan's single. Oliver and Hurley followed up with consecutive RBI singles to bring in Norris and Lenahan for a 5-0 lead.

The Grizzlies plated their only two runs of the contest in the bottom of the seventh inning. Cody Livesay walked with one out, and in the next at bat, Matt Hearn bounced the ball back to the mound. Pitcher Jordan Kurokawa's throw to second was offline, pulling shortstop Max Casper off the bag and leaving runners on first and second. Craig Massoni took advantage of the miscue, plating both runners on a single in the next at bat to move the score to 5-2.

Kurokawa (1-0) earned the win in his first start for Lake Erie, lasting 5.1 innings and surrendering two earned runs on five hits while fanning three and walking one. Chandler Jagodzinski collected his fourth save in five outings with a scoreless ninth that saw him allow one hit and strike out one.

The Crushers finish up their road trip against the Normal Cornbelters, beginning on Friday night. Adam Quintana (2-0, 2.07) starts the series for Lake Erie with first pitch scheduled for at 8:05 EST.

The Lake Erie Crushers, the 2009 Frontier League Champions, and 2011 Frontier League Organization of the year, play ball at Sprenger Healthcare Stadium, a 5,000 capacity stadium located in Avon, Ohio.
